Comrades! The international campaign "Freedom for Öcalan, a political
solution to the Kurdish question" will mark its 2nd anniversary on
October 10. On that day, hundreds of rallies, press conferences, and
demonstrations in various parts of the world will amplify the call for
the freedom of Öcalan and the more than 10,000 Kurdish political
prisoners. ---- The Kurdish people, without their own territory, have
been fighting for more than a century for their identity, for the right
to speak their own language, and for the liberation of their lands and
the emancipation of their people. Since the 1970s, the PKK (Kurdistan
Workers' Party) has waged a struggle for liberation in the Middle East.
Currently, the movement has taken the form of Democratic Confederalism,
a system based on popular organization as an alternative to the state
and capitalism. It is built on three pillars: DIRECT DEMOCRACY, WOMEN'S
LIBERATION, AND RADICAL ECOLOGY.
Abdullah Öcalan, a symbol of the Liberation Movement, has been a
political prisoner held in a Turkish island prison since 1999 for
opposing the genocidal policies of the four nation-states that divided
the territory of Kurdistan: Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria.
Solidarity among peoples is the answer to genocide, colonialism, ethnic
cleansing, and patriarchy. At this moment, when it is crucial to
reaffirm our solidarity with the Palestinian struggle and against the
genocide in Gaza, we also join the international campaign for the
freedom of Öcalan and Kurdish political prisoners.
