Today's SCOOP is brought to you by our members.

Dear New Yorkers,

Mayor Eric Adams will leave office at the end of the year and return to private life, destination still unknown. Hanging over him are bills for lawyers who represented him in defending federal corruption charges and related demands by the city Campaign Finance Board for records relating to $10 million in public matching funds he received for his winning 2021 campaign.

The latest filings from his legal defense trust show his unpaid attorneys’ bills are now $4.5 million, up $1.3 million from his last statement, most of it owed to the firm of Adams’ celebrity attorney, Alex Spiro.

That includes a restatement of an expense previously reported as $301.24. It’s now booked as $301,238.97.

And his troubles are far from done, with the city Campaign Finance Board threatening to claw back the $10 million it gave him, while continuing to refuse to release matching funds for his now-aborted reelection campaign.

Just how deep in the hole is the mayor? Read more here.
