WORLD WORLDWIDE US USA - New York NY - New York City NYC - THE CITY SCOOP - Islamophobia up front at race’s end.

Friday, Oct. 24, 2025
Dear New Yorkers,
On Wednesday night, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo vowed to end the “hatemongering and division that is tearing this city apart.”
Not 12 hours later, he was laughing with a conservative radio host about a hypothetical Mayor Zohran Mamdani cheering on another Sept. 11 attack.
Just a few hours after that, Mayor Eric Adams endorsed Cuomo and urged New Yorkers to reject Mamdani by invoking Islamophobic dog-whistles about “what’s playing out in other countries because of Islamic extremism.”
Just before early voting begins, it was quite a day on the campaign trail — where Cuomo and his supporters have been ratcheting up their rhetoric against Mamdani, poised to become the first Muslim to lead City Hall.
Read more here about how Muslim leaders, and Mamdani himself, reacted to Cuomo.
And read more here about what Adams said as he endorsed the man he recently described as a “snake and a liar.”
Tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming election and the last day to request an early mail or absentee ballot. (It’s also the first day of early voting.) Register to vote here on the Board of Elections website.
A high-powered law firm’s review of the state prison system will arrive months later than projected — and could cost up to $9.3 million, a Freedom of Information Request by THE CITY revealed. The Hochul administration hired WilmerHale to do an analysis following the death of two inmates in upstate prisons. It was expected by the end of summer, but it now won’t arrive until the end of the year.

A Major Milestone in Midtown Manhattan
This week, JPMorganChase opened its new global headquarters at 270 Park Avenue, which is the city’s largest all-electric skyscraper with net-zero operational emissions and features 2.5 times more public street-level outdoor space than the previous building. Construction created 8,000 jobs across 40 local unions and improved MTA infrastructure under the surrounding blocks. Designed to accommodate 10,000 employees and thousands of guests, the office underlines the firm’s commitment to New York City—and the $42 billion JPMorganChase contributes to the city’s economy, supporting an additional 40,000 jobs across local industries.
