| Hunger, drought, disease — your support can save lives!
Dear friends, Every day in Tanzania’s Geita Region, the suffering of animals takes many forms – paralysis, beatings, starvation, disease – and now, even extermination. The scale is overwhelming, and yet every life has a face, a story, and a quiet cry for mercy. As Animals First Aid partners with TAHUCHA, we want to show you what your kindness has already repaired… and why we must urgently ask for your help again.

You helped us stand with Dada, Luc ; a gentle six-year-old donkey who was found stiff, paralyzed, and helpless after a deep wound allowed tetanus to take over her body. Her owner stood over her in tears, unsure how he would feed his family without her. For two long weeks, TAHUCHA held her through muscle spasms, cleaned her wounds, and kept hope alive. And then – slowly – Dada stood again. Today, because of people like you, she is walking, eating, and alive. |

| While we were saving donkeys one by one, another crisis erupted! |
|
| Around the same time, Ngite, another donkey, arrived covered in deep, infected wounds after being beaten repeatedly. Flies swarmed him, infection spread fast, and he trembled when anyone approached. It took weeks of treatment and the gentlest human hands to bring him back. When he finally healed, his owner – moved by the transformation – vowed never to raise a hand again. Healing an animal heals a community too.
But while we were saving donkeys one by one, another crisis erupted.
A mange epidemic swept through Geita, leaving an estimated 4,500 dogs hairless, bleeding, and in agony. Terrified communities began exterminating them by poisoning and beating. Mothers kept children indoors. Rumors spread that “the dogs carry a deadly disease.” And tragically… some of it was true. Mange is zoonotic. |

| We met Zeckta, a little boy whose legs were covered in raw, painful mange lesions that made walking unbearable. His dog, equally infected, suffered beside him. With TAHUCHA’s intervention and compassionate care, both healed – a small miracle against a backdrop of fear. But Zeckta is only one child. More cases like his appear every week. And then came the drought. |

| Photos from our teams show donkeys so starved they collapse in the dust, ribs sharp against fragile skin, too weak to pull carts or even stand. Some were abandoned on roadsides, others wandered until they fell. When we rushed emergency treatment, clean water, and food, a few rose again… but many did not. Hunger is claiming lives faster than we can reach them. Through all this, you have lifted the heaviest burdens. You helped us send an initial request, and when TAHUCHA pleaded for help, you allowed us to release an additional donation. Those funds treated paralysis, closed wounds, fed starving donkeys, and stopped mange from spreading to more children. |
|
| | But the truth is painful: the crisis is bigger than all of us expected…
TAHUCHA’s small team is drowning in cases. Animals arrive hourly – some collapsed from hunger, others beaten, others hairless from mange, others paralyzed or too weak to move. Communities are begging for help. Children are being infected. Donkeys are dying in drought-stricken villages. Dogs are being exterminated in fear. |

| | To stop the suffering, we urgently need to help TAHUCHA establish: • A donkey recovery sanctuary for paralyzed, aged, starved, and wounded donkeys. • A dog treatment and dip-tank center to stop the mass exterminations. • Mobile veterinary teams who can reach animals in remote villages before it’s too late. This is not a small endeavor… but neither is the suffering we are witnessing. Dada stood again because of people like you. Ngite healed because someone cared enough to give. Zeckta walks without pain because compassion reached him in time. Thousands more are waiting for that same miracle. |
