The "peace plan" for Gaza ratified in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, is just
another charade to consolidate Israeli settlement activity. ---- On
October 8, Trump obtained a ceasefire from Israel on Gaza. A few days
later, on October 13, Trump and several leaders agreed to the infamous
"peace plan for Gaza." This "peace plan" was supposed to result in an
immediate Israeli ceasefire on Gaza, the release of 2,000 Palestinian
political prisoners, the return of Israeli hostages abducted on October
7, 2023, and, ultimately, the establishment of a "transitional
authority" in Palestine. This day allowed Donald Trump to shine by
presenting himself as a peacemaker for the region, supposedly putting an
end to the war. Nothing could be further from the truth. A few days
later, just enough time for thousands of Gazans to try to return to
their bombed homes and rebuild their lives, humanitarian aid was once
again halted and the bombing resumed. While Palestinians continue to die
from gunfire, hunger, or lack of access to healthcare, the Knesset has
just begun considering a bill proposing the continued partial or total
colonization of the West Bank.
Let us not be fooled by the maneuvers of leaders who, yesterday as
today, continue to carve up the world among themselves. Trump, eager to
consolidate his ties with Netanyahu, is giving him the opportunity to
further solidify his domination over Palestine by making the complete
disarmament of resistance organizations a prerequisite for peace. It is
worth noting that he even dared to claim the Nobel Peace Prize for this
action. Media discourse in France has focused on the disarmament of
Hamas as if Palestinian organizations were blocking a potential
ceasefire. These disarmament efforts contradict United Nations
resolutions that recognize the Palestinians' right to resist a colonial
regime, and, more importantly, they play into the hands of Israeli
colonialism. The disarmament of Palestine, at a time of genocide against
Gaza and the proposed annexation of the West Bank, far from being a
first step towards the recognition of a Palestinian state, actually
signifies the outright subjugation of Gaza, depriving Palestinians of
the means for their independence and self-determination. Israel's
objective remains the colonization of all Palestinian territories; this
ceasefire, however extremely favorable to Israel, was nothing more than
a crude diplomatic maneuver. Its aim was to avoid international
sanctions against Israel, which seemed increasingly inevitable in the
face of popular pressure, while simultaneously seeking to revitalize
colonial propagnda that portrays Hamas as the origin of the conflict.
In all this bloodshed, let's not assume that France has clean hands.
Macron, also present at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, is, like all the
heads of state who did nothing to prevent Netanyahu's massacres,
complicit in genocide. His recognition of the State of Palestine,
proclaimed before the United Nations, is as effective as the
constitutionalization of abortion rights in France: words followed by no
action. Far from opposing it, France contributes to genocide,
colonization, and Israeli apartheid by sending weapons to Israel and
disseminating its deceitful rhetoric. Only popular mobilization, in
France and elsewhere, is attempting to block these shipments and exert
international pressure to end this horror.
The struggle for a free and dignified Palestine must not weaken, despite
this "peace plan" which is merely another step towards the erasure of
the Palestinian people.
Palestine will live, Palestine will prevail!
