Nazi-fascism. Militaristic rhetoric and propaganda know no pause, today
more than ever. Soldiers in schools peddle enlistment as a great
professional opportunity; soldiers in the squares, in Modena, Palermo,
and Lucca, handing weapons of war to young people as if they were toys;
soldiers patrolling our neighborhoods "against degradation"; soldiers in
parades and celebrations.

The government places them everywhere, to make them a normal and
reassuring presence, but let's not forget that the same military
personnel are deployed in dozens of missions abroad, patrolling NATO's
eastern borders, patrolling the seas to prevent migrants, and defending
ENI's interests in Africa with armed forces and the list could be much
longer.

Let's not forget the role of Italian soldiers in training the Sudanese
RSF, the former Janjaweed, responsible for the massacres in Darfur, who
today continue to murder civilians in army uniform.

The responsibility of Italian governments and arms companies in the wars
of recent decades has always been extremely heavy, but the current
government stands out for its acceleration of war policies and
propaganda and for its support of criminal governments that, everywhere,
are responsible for the killing of men, women, and children. This is all
done in silence and amid the indifference of most.

In recent months, the tragedy in Gaza has emerged from the shadows cast
by so many other conflicts, sparking a significant wave of indignation.
Gaza seems to have marked a turning point in the perception of all those
who until now had not perceived how close the war is to us, in our
cities, our schools, our factories. People who filled the streets and
loudly demanded an end to the genocide, supporting with two large-scale
general strikes the extraordinary mobilization of port workers who
managed to block several ships loaded with armaments and war equipment.

Sand in the engine of militarism, as an old but ever-present slogan
goes! It must be said that this constant vigilance by port and airport
workers is nothing new; in fact, it has been going on for years. In the
past, they have stopped shipments of weapons, but today they have many
ordinary people on their side.

However, it is essential not to let our guard down, especially now that
the massacre in Gaza seems to be on hold. That war is certainly not
over, on the contrary! Just as the war in Ukraine continues, along with
dozens of other wars and massacres of defenseless civilians bloodily
shattering the globe.

It is increasingly necessary to continue filling streets and squares,
stopping arms shipments wherever they are headed, sabotaging militarist
propaganda in schools and throughout society, denouncing and boycotting
the war industries, and fighting against the construction and expansion
of military bases and facilities. Weld together the movements against
the firing ranges in Friuli with those against the bases in Tuscany and
against the MUOS (Muos) in Sicily.

In short: transform the powerful outcry over the genocide in Gaza into a
general movement against war and the war economy.

Difficult? Of course. But equally essential.
