 The Organização Socialista Libertária (OSL) strongly condemns the

persecution faced by an education worker in Bento Gonçalves (RS) at the
hands of city council members and the mayor. Rio Grande do Sul, like
other states, has become a major stage for persecution against education
workers. ---- This new episode of persecution arises from the fact that
the worker, outside of working hours and on his personal social media,
published political cartoons criticizing the ideas of Charlie Kirk, a
far-right activist from the United States who was assassinated earlier
this month. The cartoons satirize the fact that Kirk defended the
"sacred right" to own and carry firearms, even if it caused deaths - and
that his own death happened precisely as a consequence of that stance.

There is no justification for turning critical art and legitimate
critique into a pretext for public lynching and political repression.
This persecution reveals an authoritarian attempt to silence voices
denouncing the rise of the far right in Brazil and around the world.
And, as always, it exposes the hypocrisy and contradiction of the far
right: while its members speak in favor of unrestricted freedom of
expression, they are the first to portray themselves as victims when
their ideas are criticized.

We reaffirm our solidarity with the worker and defend his freedom of
expression.

Down with authoritarianism! Down with repression and censorship!
We must fight far-right persecution with class solidarity, struggle, and
organization.
