All eyes are on the Global Sumud Flotilla! In the coming hours, the
world will witness a decisive moment: the vessels carrying vital
humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza are about to enter the "war
zone" declared by Israel. Around 50 vessels are expected to cross into
this extremely dangerous area in the early hours of October 1. ---- The
mission has already faced huge obstacles, including technical problems
that forced the relocation of the entire crew of the main ship, the
"Family." Sailing in international waters under the constant threat of
attack by Zionist forces, after strong popular pressure on governments -
through strikes and intense mobilization - the final leg of the mission
was strengthened by the support of Italian Navy ships and a Spanish
escort vessel. Vessels from Turkey and the Red Cross are also expected
to join in the coming hours.
The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. With the Israeli army fully
occupying Gaza City, an estimated 700,000 people have been forced to
flee under daily bombardments. The destruction is widespread, and in
September alone four more hospitals were closed, leaving only 14 health
facilities operating under severe restrictions.
Palestinian children are paying the highest price. According to Gaza's
Ministry of Health, one in three children goes at least an entire day
without food. About 70% of young people show signs of trauma, such as
depression and anxiety, and 75% of families with children under five are
struggling with malnutrition.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens, the Palestinian cause advances on
the international stage. Eleven countries have recently recognized the
Palestinian state, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, and
Portugal. While this recognition is symbolic and lacks concrete action,
the gesture is a consequence of the pressure generated by people
worldwide, whose solidarity continues to echo, with massive protests in
cities such as Genoa and Berlin, where 100,000 people gathered last Sunday.
This moment demands immediate and decisive action. The approach of the
Flotilla and the unimaginable suffering of the Palestinian people
require all organizations to pressure President Lula's government to
immediately sever all relations with Israel. Brazil must stop exporting
oil and any other goods that sustain the genocidal war machine.
It is our duty to strengthen the ranks for the liberation of Palestine,
from the river to the sea. We support the mobilizations planned in the
coming days, the Palestine encampments at universities such as USP and
UNB, and all initiatives that amplify this global cry for justice.
End the genocide!
