| Your help can save 1,267 starving donkeys in Tanzania—act now
Dear friends, Animals First Aid has been growing rapidly across Tanzania. From TAWESO to TAHUCHA and now Mpwapwa, supporters like you have made it possible for us to reach deeper into communities where animals are fighting for survival. It is because of this expansion — and because our impact is being felt across the country — that a new organisation reached out to us in desperation: The Organisation for Creative Impact (OCI).
|
|
| | OCI is a registered Tanzanian nonprofit that works in some of the driest, most drought-stricken districts in Dodoma. Their focus is on the silent backbone of rural life: the donkeys who carry water, firewood, bricks, and the heavy burdens of families who cannot survive without them. When drought strikes, when food disappears, when the ground cracks from heat… these donkeys suffer first — and suffer the most. |

| OCI reached AFA with the message: “Is there any update? Donkeys are dying.” We knew we could not ignore this. Not after everything we have built in Tanzania. |
|
| On 11 October 2025, OCI contacted us with a plea so urgent it stopped us in our tracks. They shared that 1,267 donkeys in Mpwapwa are facing starvation because of a brutal hunger crisis. Five had already died, and more were collapsing each day. One story broke our hearts completely — a man named Emanuel, whose donkey Kinyuki was his only means of survival. Kinyuki carried water for his family, helped Emanuel earn small income, and was the reason they could get through each week.
But the drought was unforgiving. Kinyuki starved to death. Emanuel lost his companion, his livelihood, and his hope — all in one week.
OCI has been doing everything possible with almost nothing. Their field team moves from village to village offering feed, treating wounds, and trying desperately to prevent more deaths. But the situation has worsened so rapidly that even they are losing animals faster than they can save them. On 22 October, they informed us that two more donkeys had died that very morning. A hunger emergency is unfolding in real time. |
|
| | Then, in late October, protests and violence during Tanzania’s general election led to a national internet shutdown. OCI couldn’t even communicate for days. When service returned, their first message to us was simple and heartbreaking: “Is there any update? Donkeys are dying.”
We knew we could not ignore this. Not after everything we have built in Tanzania. Not after seeing how far our supporters have carried us in expanding across the region. And not when a new partner is standing alone while animals collapse from starvation. |

| AFA does not look away when animals suffer — we respond, we unite, and we fight for life |
|
| This is all they need to reach the villages, buy feed, revive starving donkeys, treat infections, and stabilise the situation long enough for rains — or relief — to come. And Animals First Aid wants this partnership to begin with strength.
A crisis of this scale requires immediate action. These donkeys cannot survive weeks without food — some cannot survive days. OCI is begging for help because they are watching the animals they care for die right in front of them.
Our growing presence in Tanzania has drawn organisations like OCI to us because they see the impact our supporters make. They see that AFA does not look away when animals suffer — we respond, we unite, and we fight for life.
Now, with this new partnership, we have a chance to save over a thousand donkeys whose only crime is being born into a drought-stricken region that offers them nothing but pain. |

| Please help us raise the urgent $3,500 needed to keep these donkeys alive! |
|
| $20 (≈ €18 / £16) – Emergency feed for a starving donkey $35 (≈ €32 / £28) – Basic vet care to treat wounds and infections $50 (≈ €46 / £40) – Fuel for OCI outreach to reach far-off villages $100 (≈ €92 / £79) – A full day of lifesaving rescues $200 (≈ €184 / £158) – Stabilises a cluster of donkeys in critical condition Every dollar directly helps an animal that would otherwise die in silence.
Every contribution honours Kinyuki’s memory and prevents another family like Emanuel’s from suffering the same heartbreak.
Animals First Aid is committed to standing with OCI as they fight this hunger emergency. Tanzania is becoming one of our strongest impact regions — and partnerships like this are exactly why. With your support, we can extend our reach, strengthen our presence, and save the animals no one else is coming for. |
