The woman whose testimony helped convict prominent Hasidic school counselor Nechemya Weberman of sexually abusing her over three years as a teenager is urging a Brooklyn judge to reject his latest attempt to cut down his 50-year prison sentence — warning that freeing him early would “embolden” him and endanger others.
In a sharply worded 14-page filing submitted Thursday to Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Matthew D’Emic, an attorney for Rivky Deutsch (née Krausz) blasted Weberman’s push for a reduced sentence as “disingenuous.”
“Letting him evade full accountability now further emboldens him and guarantees his martyrdom in his community,” the petition said.
Weberman, 65, has served 13 years in prison since his 2012 conviction on 59 counts involving years of abuse. His lawyers now contend his age, medical issues, character and allegedly disproportionate sentence justify his release.
And he’s got a key ally: Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, who stressed his office remains committed to prosecuting sexual abuse and supporting survivors.

The city will hold public hearings on the proposals Thursday and Friday, when the opportunity for public comment closes.
A throng of supporters and family members attempted a habeas hearing for home-health aide Aissatou Diallo, who was arrested by ICE at Laguardia Airport just before Thanksgiving while flying to Texas to visit her son. A federal judge set her free on Friday morning. Read more here.
