Bonjour à Toots !
Après une magnifique semaine de rentrée et presque tous nos sets sold out (merci !!), voici ce qu’on vous a préparé pour accompagner la galette des rois.
Ce soir, pas de fève mais des pièces sur l’échiquier pour notre blitz hebdomadaire, et le lancement officiel de notre lutte contre le streaming. Les premiers très beaux CD sont déjà en rayon — n’hésitez pas à vous délester de vos classiques en format compact-disc si vous les avez en double !
Demain, retour de notre jam du mercredi après deux semaines d’absence pour cause de réveillons. C’est notre directeur artistique qui sera derrière le piano pour relancer la machine.
Jeudi, un habitué du club, Simon Groppe, ouvrira la soirée avec deux petits sets solo à l’heure de l’apéro. On enchaîne ensuite avec une soirée hard-bop pur et dur, autour d’un répertoire inspiré de Benny Golson, Horace Silver et Herbie Hancock, entre autres.
Une réunion de haut vol avec le spécialiste du genre, le Parisien Fabien Mary, Mathieu Najean qu’on ne présente plus, Joachim Caffonnette au piano pour colorer l’ensemble, et une rythmique franco-belge composée de Paul Morvan et Victor Foulon. Belle soirée en perspective, ambiance garantie.
Vendredi, on continue avec les grands trompettistes : l’Américain Chad McCullough sera aux côtés du pianiste anversois Bram Weijters, avec qui il partage la scène et le studio depuis de nombreuses années. Une complicité rare au service de la musique d’un trompettiste acclamé outre-Atlantique.
Le prestigieux DownBeat Magazine écrivait à son sujet :
« un lyrisme saisissant et apaisé, allié à une acuité compositionnelle remarquable ».
La late jam sera assurée par notre Manolo Cabras national.
Samedi, rendez-vous mensuel du Brussels Rhythm’n Blues Club, qui invite cette fois Doghouse Sam, bluesman et showman de premier ordre, en session solo. Midnight Mary ouvrira la soirée comme à son habitude avec des standards rock, avant de laisser place à notre jam blues mensuelle.
Dimanche, après deux soirées dominées par la trompette, Vincent Thekal rendra hommage à l’une des grandes légendes de l’instrument : Kenny Dorham.
Et pour finir la semaine en beauté — en gardant un peu d’esprit de réveillon — Thomas Champagne s’entoure d’un band liégeois pour son “Strange Meeting”.
Venez, venez : plus on est dans le club, plus il fait chaud, et plus on peut économiser le chauffage pour booster la programmation 😉

Na een prachtige openingsweek en bijna alle sets uitverkocht (dank jullie wel!!), dit is wat we voor jullie in petto hebben tijdens de Driekoningenperiode.
Vanavond geen boon, maar stukken op het schaakbord voor onze wekelijkse blitz, en de officiële start van onze strijd tegen streaming. De eerste mooie cd’s liggen al klaar — voel je vrij om je jazzklassiekers in compact-discformaat binnen te brengen als je ze dubbel hebt!
Morgen is onze woensdagjam terug na twee weken pauze door de eindejaarsfeesten. Onze artistiek directeur zit zelf achter de piano om alles opnieuw op gang te trekken.
Donderdag opent clubregular Simon Groppe de avond met twee korte solo-sets op aperitieftijd. Daarna volgt pure hard bop, met een repertoire rond Benny Golson, Horace Silver en Herbie Hancock, onder andere.
Een topbezetting met hard-bopspecialist Fabien Mary uit Parijs, Mathieu Najean (die geen introductie meer nodig heeft), Joachim Caffonnette aan de piano, en een Frans-Belgische ritmesectie met Paul Morvan en Victor Foulon. Mooie avond in het vooruitzicht, sfeer gegarandeerd.
Vrijdag gaan we verder met sterke trompettisten: de Amerikaanse trompettist Chad McCullough speelt samen met de Antwerpse pianist Bram Weijters, met wie hij al jarenlang het podium en de studio deelt. Een bijzondere muzikale verstandhouding in dienst van een trompettist die aan de andere kant van de oceaan wordt geprezen.
DownBeat Magazine schreef ooit over hem:
“stunning, chilled lyricism and compositional acuity.”
De late jam wordt geleid door onze nationale trots Manolo Cabras.
Zaterdag is het maandelijkse rendez-vous van de Brussels Rhythm’n Blues Club, die deze keer Doghouse Sam verwelkomt — een bluesman en showman van het hoogste niveau, solo op het podium. Midnight Mary opent zoals steeds met rockstandards, gevolgd door onze maandelijkse blues jam.
Zondag, na twee avonden met de trompet in de hoofdrol, brengt Vincent Thekal een hommage aan een van de grote legendes van het instrument: Kenny Dorham.
En om de week in schoonheid af te sluiten — met nog een vleugje eindejaar — brengt Thomas Champagne een Luikse band samen voor zijn “Strange Meeting”.
Kom af — hoe meer volk in de club, hoe warmer het wordt, en hoe meer we kunnen besparen op verwarming om onze programmatie te blijven versterken 😉

After a great opening week and almost all our shows sold out (thank you!!), here’s what we’ve got lined up to go with the King’s Cake season.
Tonight, no hidden bean but plenty of pieces on the chessboard for our weekly blitz, and the official launch of our fight against streaming. The first beautiful CDs are already on the shelves — feel free to drop off your classic compact discs if you happen to have doubles!
Tomorrow, our Wednesday jam is back after a two-week break due to the holidays. Our artistic director will be behind the piano to get things rolling again.
Thursday, club regular Simon Groppe opens the evening with two short solo sets at aperitif time. Then it’s time for pure, straight-ahead hard bop, with a repertoire inspired by Benny Golson, Horace Silver and Herbie Hancock, among others.
A high-level gathering featuring Paris-based hard-bop specialist Fabien Mary, Mathieu Najean (no introduction needed), Joachim Caffonnette on piano to color the sound, and a Franco-Belgian rhythm section with Paul Morvan and Victor Foulon. A great night ahead, with guaranteed vibes.
Friday, we continue with top-class trumpet players: American trumpeter Chad McCullough joins Antwerp-based pianist Bram Weijters, with whom he has shared stages and studios for many years. A rare musical partnership serving the music of a trumpeter acclaimed across the Atlantic.

Saturday, it’s the monthly meeting of the Brussels Rhythm’n Blues Club, welcoming Doghouse Sam, a first-rate bluesman and showman, this time in solo format. Midnight Mary opens the night as usual with rock standards, followed by our monthly blues jam.
Sunday, after two trumpet-heavy evenings, Vincent Thekal pays tribute to one of the great legends of the instrument: Kenny Dorham.
And to close the week in style — keeping a bit of holiday spirit alive — Thomas Champagne brings together a Liège-based band for his “Strange Meeting” project.
