WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE FRANCE - news journal UPDATE - (en) France, UCL Leaflet: December 18: Long live the solidarity of peoples, down with deadly borders! (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

December 18 is International Migrants Day. For the bourgeoisie, it will

be an opportunity for soothing speeches on immigration and tolerance.
For the social movement, it is a day of struggle and anti-racist
strikes. Immigrants are discriminated against everywhere. The racist
policies of the French state and the European Union, serving the
interests of corporate overexploitation, are killing people. The right
and far right are escalating their racist barbarity, particularly in the
United States. December 18 and beyond: the time has come to counterattack.

From the Darmanin law of January 2024 to the Retailleau circular of
January 2025, the French state continues its racist and authoritarian
offensive. Behind the security rhetoric, it reinforces an already
over-armed police apparatus and legitimizes the hunt for exiles. Those
seeking refuge are criminalized and must prove their right to exist in
France. Faced with the harmful influence of the state, popular
self-defense and class solidarity remain our best weapons. After
recognizing the State of Palestine to salve its conscience and create a
diplomatic façade, France blocks the arrival of Palestinian families
seeking refuge after two years of genocide. At borders, in airports, in
"waiting zones," the French state treats Palestinian exiles as
intruders. If thousands of people flee their countries, it is because
imperialism sows death. The French state sells weapons to the worst
murderers and persecutes those fleeing the carnage. All over the globe,
people are caught in the crossfire between capitalist predation and
local dictators. Sudan is a stark example: 150,000 deaths according to
the official figure (probably many more), 12 million forcibly displaced
persons, including over 4 million refugees outside the country, and 30
million people dependent on humanitarian aid. It is the largest current
humanitarian crisis. Europe, through its agreements (Khartoum Process)
and its funding of militias, is directly involved in the militarization
of borders and human trafficking. By being complicit in this war,
Fortress Europe is pushing millions of people into exile and erecting
deadly borders.

Within the territory it controls, the French state is pursuing an
ever-increasing policy of repression and persecution against immigrants.
Successive laws continually increase the maximum detention period in
administrative detention centers, now at 210 days, and France plans to
continually expand this system of confinement. The inhumane sorting
between "migrants" and "refugees" leaves the lives of exiles in the
hands of bureaucratic machines, which issue or refuse residency permits
with utter arbitrariness. The French state thus orchestrates the
precariousness of exiled proletarians, allowing predatory capitalists to
impose ever more degrading working conditions upon them. Police
operations to destroy camps are multiplying, without any relocation
solutions being offered. Even for those who have been settled in France
for a long time, the conditions for renewing residency permits are
becoming more stringent, threatening them with the loss of their rights
in a country where they have sometimes lived for decades. The policies
of persecution, the creation of a population, and the relentless pursuit
of undocumented immigrants have reached the height of their inhumanity
in Mayotte. France still hasn't provided a serious official assessment
of Cyclone Chido, and no aid has been delivered to the already
unsanitary shantytowns. On the contrary, the deportation machine set in
motion with Wuambushu is ramping up again, in total disregard for the
most basic human rights and the unity of the Comoros archipelago. The
persecution of immigrants is a war against the people. Let's respond
with class war!

It is urgent to build a strong anti-racist and anti-imperialist front,
capable of pushing back the steamroller of state racism and fascism. On
December 18, across France, everyone will be on strike and in the
streets protesting against the colonial policies of the French state, to
demand:

* the regularization of all undocumented immigrants
* the repeal of the Darmanin Law
* the abolition of administrative detention centers
* an end to deportations and administrative harassment of foreigners
* the repeal of the stripping of citizenship
* freedom of movement and settlement
