Dear New Yorkers,

Way back in March of 2025, when Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani was at 1% in the Democratic primary polls, he promised THE CITY's FAQ podcast his very first sit-down interview as mayor.

On Thursday afternoon, Mayor Mamdani made good on that promise, sitting down for a wide-ranging conversation that opened up with co-host Christina Greer asking:

“You accused an ICE agent yesterday of committing murder in Minneapolis. If that happened here, would you expect the NYPD to arrest that agent?”

The mayor replied: “If you violate the law, then you have to be held to account.”

Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced an effort to expand child care across the state, including a free program for 2-year-olds in New York City starting in the fall. The governor agreed that the state will fund the first two years of free child care for New York City 2-year-olds, a program she called 2-Care.
