Dear New Yorkers,

Way back in March of 2025, when Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani was at 1% in the Democratic primary polls, he promised THE CITY's FAQ podcast his very first sit-down interview as mayor.

On Thursday afternoon, Mayor Mamdani made good on that promise, sitting down for a wide-ranging conversation that opened up with co-host Christina Greer asking:

“You accused an ICE agent yesterday of committing murder in Minneapolis. If that happened here, would you expect the NYPD to arrest that agent?”

The mayor replied: “If you violate the law, then you have to be held to account.”

Listen to the full interview here, including his reasoning for holding an influencers-only press briefing earlier this week as “a reflection of the fact that for many New Yorkers, they start and end their days by opening social media.”

Weather ☁️
