WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE ITALY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, Sicilia Libertaria #467 - No more feminicides, lesbian murders, trans*cides - Transfeminist Tide Rising (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Since the beginning of 2026, seven cases of femicide have already been recorded in Italy. Added to the eleven attempted femicides, this reveals a ferocity that shows no sign of abating and must be addressed immediately. As of December 31, 2025, the National Observatory of Non Una Di Meno reports 84 femicides, 7 induced suicides, and 78 attempted feminicides. These are disconcerting figures, and it is unacceptable that they will be repeated or even exceeded. ---- While the media spins narratives that intermittently emphasize heartbreak, mental instability, and conflictual dynamics for which each bears their share of responsibility, the fact is that seven more women join all those no longer alive, killed by men who, regardless of their biographical specifics, may share a multitude of characteristics that must be clearly identified without fear of error.

Overall, these are people known to the victims, with whom they had enjoyed a very deep level of intimacy up until the time of the murder or until a certain point in their lives. We're talking about partners, ex-partners, children, fathers-those roles one shouldn't imagine having to defend oneself from. Almost all of them committed murder at home-all except Zoe Trinchero's murderer, who strangled her in a public place-whether it was a shared home or the victim's, and they used bladed and firearms, as well as rudimentary means and their own physical strength. Looking at femicides committed in 2026 alone, three out of seven murderers took their own lives after committing the crime.

The ages of the victims range from 17 to 83, as do the ages of the murderers, who range from 20 to 89. This demonstrates that these dynamics cannot be reduced to a mere trigger or specific circumstances, which too often take the form of those insipid mitigating factors that generalize and belittle, such as youthful impulsiveness, marital crises, or the intellectual instability that comes with old age.

On the contrary, it is clearly evident that at any age and at any level of kinship or proximity, for any reason, a man, young or old, can take a woman's life as an extreme act of control and oppression, punishment and subjugation, finding in the deprivation of life itself the ultimate solution to the problem. The exercise of this presumptuous superiority-that of believing oneself compulsively in the power to determine the worthiness of another's life, which underlies murder itself-also serves, in the context of femicide, as a sign of a cultural and behavioral rootedness that finds its highest expression in killing, but which has constant repercussions in everyday life, at every level.

Monica, Federica, Maria Teresa, Luigia, Assunta, Luciana, and Zoe, women of all ages and from all parts of Italy, victims of unjustifiable violence, stabbed, hidden, strangled, dismembered, tormented even posthumously, are not numbers; they are women who were killed by men close to them, men they loved and from whom they had to protect themselves. Sisters swept away by patriarchal violence, which seeks to punish one to regiment a thousand and which, then, will have to clash even more harshly with transfeminist struggles, which will never retreat an inch, while the government and institutions pretend to try to contain the phenomenon, meanwhile whipping up shameful laws that, from rapes recognized as such only if prior and explicit dissent can be demonstrated to the feigned rush to conform to international norms without it actually happening, expose the enemy's fangs to every woman and person who identifies as female.

In this scenario, suicide increasingly stands out as an extremely significant factor in femicide, lesbian murder, and trans*cide. Consumed as a consequence of the murder just committed, it betrays the digressions on the topic by bringing it back to the centrality of the controlling behavior of the man. When he feels the woman has the power to do things that diverge from his own intentions, he can often lose his composure, committing violence to the point of causing her death, only to later regret it and inflict the same punishment on himself. This, more than the details of the case, highlights the root of the problem and the nature of the violence, which is undoubtedly gender-based violence.

Alongside femicides, there is also a whole murky and poorly defended spectrum of indirect actions, such as incitement to suicide, psychological violence, and attempted murder-actions that, once unsuccessful, are often reduced to family fights, accidents, and other trivialities, and which almost always see the survivor crushed by the weight of her own active role. Thus, when fortunately one survives, one is faced with a harrowing ordeal from which it is usually the victim, alone against all odds, who pulls herself out if she finds the strength within herself.

This suffocating solitude of those who survive, like the forced annihilation of those who die, are the conditions imposed by patriarchal logics, which want us to be fearful, divided, and subjugated. The answer, unfortunately, cannot be found in the protests of the heated days of the feminist wave, which are necessary, but absolutely insufficient. Just as all this isn't the case in the painful trials and penalties, whether reduced or severe, provided by law for those who commit it. Beyond the senseless "correction" of individuals that justice attempts to effect in vain, beyond the scheduling of struggles, which provides no concrete companionship to any single woman, it is necessary to develop grassroots strategies for a massive network: to establish help desks, outposts, and self-organized groups to jointly confront the home and the streets, to reclaim all possible space for action and discourse to oppose this violence as old as our backward species, which we can no longer justify or tolerate. May the transfeminist tide always be high and impetuous, everywhere, at every moment, for all the sisters who are no longer with us, for all those who still resist, and for all those who will come.
