There are signals that Ukraine peace talks are back on the table – with some caveats.
With Russia’s recruitment taking a dive nationwide, parts of the Moscow refinery knocked offline until 2027, and budget deficit hitting $80 billion, some believe Putin might finally be ready to talk – but it appears we may have entered the old cycle of Moscow saying yes but acting no, with Lavrov once again rejecting frontline freezes and the Kremlin dusting off its usual nuclear rhetoric.
Rutte said Trump’s team is working on some proposals, while other reports suggest Trump may be warming up to Kyiv this time, much to Moscow’s displeasure – let’s hope it stays that way, if the reports are true.
Meanwhile, tensions between Kyiv and Warsaw continue to brew over Ukraine’s naming of a military unit and Poland’s subsequent decision to revoke Zelensky’s state honor. New polls in Ukraine suggest the public does not care much about it and wants history kept out of politics, while Warsaw says this is an issue for Ukraine and Poland to sort out between themselves, with no mediation needed.
Kyiv’s deputy PM also aims to meet EU benchmarks by 2027 and join the EU by 2030, despite some obstacles from Hungary.
