Britain, Collective Action is dead; the Libertarian Communist Initiative is born.

Launched on May Day 2012, Collective Action set out as a regroupment project concerned
with rethinking the organisational structures and theoretical groundwork commonly found
within the established anarchist milieu. Initially hoping to work with and regroup
sections of this milieu, few beyond a variety of local projects have been perceptive to
the questions Collective Action has tried to ask. The foremost stimulus for starting out
in 2012 remains a key problematic we want to address: in 2011 riots swept large parts of
urban Britain, yet the established left ? whether institutional or contentious ? was
incapable of responding, intervening or organising within the space the riots opened up.
We are adamant that this should not be the case again.

We still take inspiration from the especifismo ? or specifist ? current in South America,
which continues to make particularly important interventions into the ongoing class
struggle in Brazil. However, we feel there is little of inspiration to be found in the
British anarchist movement as it currently exists. As such, our organisational and
theoretical regroupment has reached a cadence and our energies are now turned to our
social praxis. It is time for Collective Action to die, and for the Libertarian Communist
Initiative to be born. Presently we exist as a cadre organisation and reaffirm our
commitment to collective responsibility, tactical unity and theoretical clarity. We are
not a mass membership organisation, though we will be seeking to grow our cadre over the
coming months and years and in the long term seek to develop a militant party capable of
stimulating and assisting class struggle across a variety of terrains, from social
reproduction to grassroots movements. Eschewing the mass membership model, we aim to
maximise our capacities as a minority political organisation which can operate within a
larger ecology of initiatives. We feel a strong affinity with the Plan C project and feel
the models which offer most in the struggle for dual power ? that is, counter-hegemony ?
are those which seek to transcend the hackneyed dichotomies of both centralism versus
horizontalism and unity versus fragmentation.

Maximising our capacity as a cadre is central to our ethos. Therefore our initial
campaigns can be summarised as falling into two key areas. Firstly, we will be conducting
an inquiry into the current state of material conditions across the class. The recent
spike in food bank usage is extremely alarming and we wish to gain a better understanding
of the specific issues forcing people to rely on them, in order to formulate a better
strategy of intervention before people get to this stage. Secondly, we will be generating
anti-police propaganda in an effort to make links to those in communities bearing the
brunt of police harassment.

We actively seek to work with others on these campaigns and are keen to hear from fellow
travellers of all stripes regardless of affiliation. We agree with Malatesta that there is
no point being in an organisation simply to belong, and that working with an organisation
should always be instrumental. If you would like to work with us toward shared ends,
please get in touch.
