Jason-Collins-350Jason Collins, the NBA’s first openly gay player, was among those honored Saturday by the Los Angeles City Council as part of a kickoff of the city’s LGBT heritage month. Collins, a center for the Brooklyn Nets, said he hopes that one day being openly gay is not a big deal. “So many people are working hard to improve LGBT rights, equality. I’m honored to be part of the conversation.”

Hate group asks members to reject mail bearing Harvey Milk stamp

Milk-stampThe rabidly anti-gay hate group, the American Family Association, is protesting the recent release of the Harvey Milk postage stamp by encouraging its members to refuse to accept any mail bearing the stamp. “Honoring predator Harvey Milk on a U.S. postage stamp is disturbing to say the least,” said AFA President Tim Wildmon.

Pat Quinn acknowledges the applause after signing the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act into law, making Illinois the 16th state in the nation to embrace full marriage equality for same sex couples, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, in Chicago.The waiting ends Sunday, when Illinois' 102 counties may begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Gay couples and gay-rights advocates across the state will mark the date with blessing ceremonies and group weddings, and several county clerks offices will make an exception and offer office hours that day for license-seekers unwilling to wait until Monday morning.
