Maite Oronoz RodriguezA lesbian attorney is poised to become the first openly gay person on Puerto Rico’s Supreme Court after being nominated earlier this week by the U.S. territory's governor. Maite Oronoz Rodriguez, who currently serves as legal director for city San Juan, was nominated to fill a vacancy on the court by Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla.

One man in custody, another on the run in Seattle homicide of two gay men

Ali Muhammed Brown is wanted in the slayings of two gay men in Seattle.SEATTLE -- One man is in custody and another suspect is on the run in last weekend's double homicide of two gay men in Seattle's Central District. Dwone Anderson-Young, 23, and Ahmed Said, 27, were fatally shot in the early morning hours on Sunday, June 1. Both victims are believed to have been gay.

Texas GOP approves platform endorsing ‘reparative therapy’ for gays

Roughly 7,000 delegates Saturday ratified the platform without debating their party's stance on homosexuality on the convention floor.

Former cop sues London police claiming years of anti-gay harassment

Kevin MaxwellLONDON -- A former police officer is suing suing London's Metropolitan Police for discrimination, claiming he was forced to quit after being told his bosses monitor the gay hook-up app Grindr, and that fellow officers taunted him by saying he should become "a hairdresser or cabin crew."

County executive: 146 same-sex couples married in Milwaukee

On Friday a federal judge struck down the state's gay marriage ban.MILWAUKEE -- Nearly 150 gay couples have married in Milwaukee after a federal judge overturned Wisconsin's ban on same-sex marriage. Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said Saturday afternoon that 146 couples married there before the courthouse closed at 1 p.m.

Louisville, Ky., high school approves transgender bathroom policy

Atherton-High-SchoolLOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville high school has passed a policy allowing transgender students to use the restrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity. Atherton High School Principal Thomas Aberli said a school council voted 8-1 on Thursday in favor of the policy.

Dear Nancy Grace: Your revisionist history of Anita Bryant is mind boggling

Anita Bryant, country singer and gay-rights opponent, had a banana cream pie thrown in her face by Tom Higgins, an openly gay man from Minneapolis, in 1977 during a press conference in Des Moines, Iowa. Instead of retaliating, Bryant's husband, Bob Green, said to let Higgins go untouched as they prayed for him.As a gay dad to two boys adopted from foster care as babies, I can tell you that what Anita Bryant WAS trying to do was de-humanizing.  Under the rallying cry of “save our children” she fought to keep gay people away from children. I can only imagine what she would think of me saving mine from death and disaster at the hand of drug addicted birth parents.  She stated, “As a mother, I know that homosexuals cannot biologically reproduce children; therefore, they must recruit our children.”

Salt Lake City Council wants parade to rethink LGBT group’s rejection

The group Mormons Building Bridges,     participating in Utah Pride in 2012.SALT LAKE CITY — The legislative arm of Salt Lake City government is formally asking organizers of Utah's biggest parade to allow a Mormon-faith LGBT group to participate in the event. City Council members in a letter made public Friday evening asked the Days of '47 Parade, which honors the Mormon pioneers’ 1847 arrival in the Salt Lake Valley.

N.J. judge: Conversion therapy practitioners could be liable for damages

Same-sex couples still getting married in Wisconsin

Sowards, who is six months pregnant, has been with Freitag for six years.MILWAUKEE — Judges in Milwaukee and Dane counties are marrying gay couples for a second day following a federal judge's ruling overturning Wisconsin's same-sex marriage ban. More than 60 couples were married in each county Friday, as courthouses stayed open late following the judge's decision earlier that day.
