Media: HAVANA TIMES - The anti-authoritarian anti-capitalist activism in Our America has a
new organization, the Anarchist Federation of Central America and the Caribbean. A few
weeks ago held its founding congress in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic,
and Cuba was present with a representative of the Libertarian Workshop Alfredo López. A
few days ago the first public release of the committee of correspondence in the newborn
Federation was published. ---- ¿Anarchism today? - Ask the unbelievers. ---- Anarchism,
yes! - Answer: enough authoritarian "socialism" capitalist neo-liberalism,
elite-competitive democracies and charismatic multipolarismos "fourth position". ---- As a
small but representative group delegated / as met in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican
Republic, on behalf of those who believe in the struggle for social justice, but are
skeptical of the claim that states are the best vehicles to achieve ...
Is that social movements lose the essence when trying to become government: being
movements, the social being, and self be ... - commented one company in the coffee break
while discussing how the new Federation defines itself threatened become endless. But by a
miracle of those between believers in living with anarchy, the thing was resolved in a few
minutes, and the session continued, more relaxed and consolidated towards increasingly
clear purposes.
The Federation was formed with delegates from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, USA, Bonaire,
El Salvador and Puerto Rico. It is a specifically anarchist organization structured as a
federation of tendencies (which does not seek to impose on its members a unique trend, but
respects existing ones in motion).
In the immediate missions assigned to us was to assess the complex situation between the
Dominican Republic and Haiti, when nationalism is used by states to exacerbate tensions,
generate violence and sexism, and militarize society; to generate responses from freedom,
create a volunteer team of anti-genocide; we also have a team of self, to coordinate and
support projects that seek to grow in self-organization and learning by doing. And a team
of anti-repressive and anti-jail solidarity.
Cuba participates through the Libertarian Workshop Alfredo López, although other anarchist
anarchists and even individual projects could enter independently.
The hosts of the Congress was libertarian Kiskeya, a union of three groups with offices in
major cities in Dominican Republic. One (Cibao Libertarian) has an excellent social center
in Santiago de los Caballeros, where a library, several community projects, a
micro-gardening work, and varies / os companion / os live in community, with a cat, also
quite anarchist.
There was a night where militants Kiskeya Libertarian-indeed, excellent musicians-shared
with the rest of the / os participants bachata songs, rock and trova. The Dominican
anarchism is quite familioso: parents of young anarchists respect and support them in
their activities. The libertarian idea is present in Dominican universities, as there are
some / os teachers who are also anarchists, and maintain correspondence with noted authors
of this trend, as Noam Chomsky, to name the best known.
The Congress had the support and the presence of guests of the International of Anarchist
Federations (IFA), and the Federation Rosa Negra, USA. At its first meeting were read or
projected over ten greeting messages of various anarchist groups of the continent.
The new Federation is opposed to capitalism and authoritarianism (state, or other).
Anarchism has a growing presence in the social struggles of the past decades; its emphasis
on popular power without bureaucratic mediations and horizontality has deepened in recent
concepts of anti-capitalist political reflection.
