(en) France, Alternative Libertaire AL - Tafta, Tisa, Ceta:
capitalist dream, nightmare of the people! (fr, it, pt) [machine
translation]
April 18 is the international day of action against the free trade agreements being
negotiated (Tafta, Tisa, Ceta). These agreements, intended to serve the interests of
multinational companies are a major threat to all social rights (right to work, right to
health) and the environment. ---- Two agreements are negotiated in secrecy by the European
Commission: the transatlantic trade and investment partnership (or Tafta), negotiated with
the United States, and Ceta, negotiated with Canada. To this is added the Tisa Treaty,
which affects 50 countries around the world and aims to sell public services. ---- The
stated objective of these treaties is to phase out all tariffs but also all the rules that
prevent the capitalists to make even more profit. What this amounts to skip health
protection standards (eg health regulations on GMOs or chickens treated with chlorine)
quality standards (AOC, organic) or environmental standards (on shale gas in particular).
The ultra-liberal measures that seek to impose these texts are not new: many countries in
Latin America and elsewhere are already experiencing such dramatic trade agreements. The
novelty of these agreements is that they are trying to tackle everything at once. If
capitalists are now trying to impose agreements as disastrous for the people, it is
because they feel that the resistance is not up and have for now hands free. If we want to
prevent them from doing harm to us to show that we still have the ability to resist!
A weapon of war for multinationals
With the treaties being negotiated, all that can be seen as an obstacle to trade can be
attacked. Utilities, falling outside market forces are directly targeted and
multinationals hope to force governments to privatize limitless. The services in focus:
education, but also health, social security, distribution of gas or electricity, water
supply, etc.
These treaties are also trying to impose a dispute settlement system between
multinationals and the states that totally escapes the traditional justice. When companies
deem that a rule violates their interests, they will attack the state and ask for massive
damage and interests. And this is not even a court of justice but a group of arbitrators
who will decide, without possibility of appeal. This system has already been imposed in
other countries where multinationals such fact condemn states for increasing the minimum
wage, or banned shale gas ...
Organize resistance
For now, governments show no reaction to these treaties that may completely change the
rules of the capitalist game worldwide. National parliaments (like the National Assembly
in France) or the European Parliament remain silent while they have the opportunity to
reject the draft agreements. To prevent large multinationals to act above the law, so we
call to participate in the international campaign against CETA and join the group "Stop
Tafta" that multiply.
We do not want this partnership negotiated by economic and political elites, far from the
eyes of the people. We do not want this great transatlantic market for maintaining healthy
capitalist system and to satisfy the greed of European and American investors. We do not
want this system where only account the relentless law of profit.
