Dear friends,
Thank you for taking the time to express your interest in working on Deadly Force, Amnesty International’s campaign to address issues of police accountability in the United States. You are now a part of our Deadly Force network, which means that you will receive regular updates about our work on this issue, as well as training and education opportunities for you and your human rights networks.
Every year, hundreds of people die at the hands of law enforcement. We don’t know how many exactly, because the United States government does not count how many lives are lost, but estimates from sources like the Guardian indicate that the numbers are well over a thousand in just the past year alone.
Over the past few years, the Department of Justice, along with President Obama’s 21st Century Task Force on Policing, has made some strides towards police reform. However, with the leadership transition at the Department of Justice, this could all be at risk.
It’s time to look towards and ask our congressional leadership to keep the momentum on police reform going.
Take action now and contact your representative to pledge their support to the movement for police accountability.
Sincerely,
Noor Mir
