Dear friends,
A new mosque in Berlin has been welcoming openly LGBT Muslims to prayer – showing the world that no one should be excluded from practicing their faith because of who they are or who they love.
But since the Ibn Rushd-Goethe mosque opened in June, their founder has been receiving 1,000 hate messages a day.
Seyran Ateş, a Muslim and brave women's rights activist from Berlin, opened the mosque to take a stand for inclusiveness and diversity in her faith. After the surge of threats and an attack on the streets of Berlin, she has had to be put under 24-hour police protection.
We have a powerful way to show Seyran and the team at the mosque they are not alone.
We'll send them a massive display of solidarity by mailing thousands of postcards from around the world straight to the mosque. This people-powered message of love will support Seyran and her team as they take a stand against division and fundamentalism.
For more than eight years, Seyran has worked hard to make her dream of an inclusive space for prayer come true – a space that welcomes everyone and shows that being who you are and having faith aren't mutually exclusive.
She stands against powerful opponents. Since launching, the project has been denounced and condemned by religious authorities in Egypt and Turkey.
Together, we can show her that we share her dream. We can show the world that thousands and thousands of us are on her side.
It's very easy to send your solidarity postcard – you can do it right away with just a few clicks. This is how it works:
- First, we'll ask you for a small donation of $3 to cover printing, mailing and service costs. If you give more, you will contribute to our fight for love and equality.
- You'll then be able to pick an image for your postcard and write your own message to Seyran.
- Your message will be printed on a high-quality postcard and we'll ship it to Seyran by mail.
Thanks for going All Out,
Matt Beard
Executive Director
