Hello,
Here are the stories you should know this week.
Good news! Saudi Arabia, the only country in the world that prohibited women from driving, is finally ending its ban. It's a great start, but there's more to this story.
  • Make no mistake, this is a major victory for Saudi women who have courageously worked for decades to confront discrimination.
  • But Saudi Arabia continues to impose other restrictions on women. Under the country’s male guardianship system, every woman must have a male guardian – a father, brother, husband, or even a son – who has the authority to make critical decisions on her behalf...like whether she can travel abroad.
  • This system remains the biggest impediment to Saudi women exercising their rights. If the Saudi government wants to get serious about improving human rights (as it claims it does), it should end this abusive system once and for all, and give women equal opportunities for success.
