WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE ITALY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, FAI, Umanita Nova #7-26 - Persian Gulf in flames. Stop the war now! (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Too many deaths have already been caused by the conflict between the US and Israel on one side and Iran on the other. ---- The situation is still evolving and open to every possible solution. This is why it is important to discuss and debate, especially regarding the actions of the Italian government and the European Union. ----- The predominant narrative, from this perspective, is that the intervention would aim to bring about the collapse of the Islamic Republic.

The idea that war and foreign military occupation are the worst conditions in which to launch a revolutionary process has long been a belief within the anarchist movement, at least since, from different positions, Mussolini and Lenin spoke of transforming the imperialist war into a revolutionary war. Today, the possibility of triggering a crisis that would pave the way for proletarian revolution in Iran is viewed with particular concern by governments bordering the Persian Gulf. I believe we should reflect on the nature of the US and Israeli intervention, an intervention aimed at blocking this crisis, both by imposing regime change and by encouraging the strengthening of the Islamic Republic through aggression. If these considerations are true, we are faced with an intervention carried out against the rebellious masses.

The Italian government and other European Union governments have embraced the US and Israeli narrative, extolling the possibility of regime change.

At the emergency meeting of the Italian government on February 28, a very dangerous position was taken, because Giorgia Meloni "expressed the Italian government's support and condemnation of the unjustifiable attacks suffered by their nations" to the heads of the Persian Gulf states without even mentioning the aggression suffered by Iran. This stance is dangerous because it reintroduces the narrative that holds Iran responsible for the outbreak of the ongoing war, which, in the Western narrative, was a defensive one. The government's position is also dangerous, given the presence of Italian troops in the area, who could be called upon to take "defensive" action against the Gulf states. A thousand Italian soldiers are stationed in Iraq and Kuwait alone, divided between the Erbil base in Iraq and Ali al-Salem in Kuwait. The gravity of the situation is highlighted by the fact that on March 1st, Iran attacked the Ali al-Salem base, which hosts 13,500 US troops.

Consistent with our internationalist and anti-militarist principles, it is important to advance the objective of the immediate withdrawal of Italian troops from the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. This is primarily for the protection of the population. But I am also convinced that the possibility of a revolutionary evolution in the Iranian situation can only be facilitated by the cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of all occupation troops from the Persian Gulf and Red Sea area.
