Dear friends –
If you're arrested under Tunisia's anti-gay law, authorities can force you to undergo so-called "anal testing."
They claim it's an examination to find "evidence" of your sexual orientation. It's actually a traumatising sexual assault that proves absolutely nothing.
Last May, I delivered over 45,000 signatures from All Out members around the world asking the National Council of the Medical Order in Tunisia to ban "anal tests".
And something amazing just happened: The Tunisian government accepted a recommendation from the UN and promised to put an end to this horrifying practice. It's a first step, but it's unlikely they will see it through unless they know the world is watching.
Here's what one victim had to say about being forced to endue this inhumane abuse:
"I felt like I was an animal. I felt I wasn't human... When I got dressed they put handcuffs on me and I went out, feeling completely in shock... The two police were standing and watching what the doctor was doing. I felt violated."
Medical and forensic specialists around the world have discredited this horrific practice. Even Tunisian authorities know they are just a way to torture and traumatise people they assume are gay.
Tunisians deserve assurance that their government will no longer subject them to torture in order to guess their sexual orientation. We can prevent another person from being subjected to "anal tests" under the guise of supposedly consenting to it.
Thanks for going All Out,
