Save the Endangered Thompson River Steelhead! Sign Now Dear friends, The Thompson River steelhead fish of Canada once numbered in the thousands. They became legendary for their size and power. But today, only a few hundred of these creatures remain in the wild. Tell the Canadian government that they must save the Thompson River steelhead before it is too late! This autumn, the number of Thomson steelheads was estimate at under 200 fish — the lowest on record. They are now at dire risk of extinction. The fisheries manager in British Columbia has even sounded the alarm, saying they are "extremely close to being gone forever." One of the main reasons behind this iconic marine life's decline is gillnets and "non-selective" salmon fishing methods. Despite this, the federal department that regulates commercial fishing in Canada has permitted the ongoing use of gillnets in the area. Local conservationists are outraged. With a population count that's so incredibly small, there's no room for error. But if we're lucky, there may still be time to turn the tide. That's why they're asking for your help.
