BRUSSELS - Launching of the campaign “The Other Jerusalem” - JULY 6

BRUSSELS - Launching of the campaign “The Other Jerusalem”
Palestinians live in a segregated and unequal Jerusalem

On July 6th, Mundubat in collaboration with ECCP - EuropeanCoordination of Committees and Associations for Palestine, will launch The Other Jerusalem campaign, developed by Defense for Children International – Palestine.
The event will take place in De Market, located in Rue du Vieux Marché aux Grains 5, 1000 Bruxelles at 18:00.
This campaign, aims to challenge the Israeli’s prolonged occupation of East Jerusalem and the false notion of an “undivided Jerusalem”, it also targets the strengthening of the resilience of vulnerable Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem by promoting awareness about this population’s plight under Israeli occupation.
Palestinians in Jerusalem, fear that the U.S. president Donald Trump recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel, followed by the transfer of the diplomatic missions of the U.S. and other countries, will directly emboldened Israel to escalate its flagrant violations of Palestinians rights in occupied Jerusalem. Just as significantly, fear, that the inaction of the international community and the lack of any concrete binding action to hold Israel accountable will also contribute to the reinforcement of Israel´s de factoannexation of East Jerusalem.
The Other Jerusalem campaign responds to the grave concern, about the continuation by Israel, the occupying power, of: illegal settlement activities; policies and continuing demolitions of Palestinian homes and other civilian infrastructures, in and around East Jerusalem; revocation of residency rights; eviction and displacement of numerous Palestinian families from East Jerusalem neighborhoods, including those cut off form the city by the separation wall; excavations undertaken in the Old City of Jerusalem; sufficient and fair access to education and the exposure of Palestinian children and youth before the Israeli law and judicial system.
Furthermore, Palestinians live in a separate and unequal Jerusalem where intersecting discriminatory laws, policies, budgets and practices are having a detrimental effect on their lives and could also prejudge a final status on Jerusalem.
Concluding the campaign, a petition will be delivered to the European Union, UN Secretary-General, and President of the UN Security Council, urging them to uphold international law and take steps to end Israel’s discriminatory laws and practices toward Jerusalem's Palestinian residents. EU and UN member states must avoid taking actions that imply recognition of Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem.
