Don't let Billy the elephant die behind bars!

Billy the Elephant is Depressed, Bored, and Lonely. Help Free Billy and Send Him to a Sanctuary!

Dear friends,
Billy the elephant spends his days swaying and bobbing his head up and down. This stereotypic behavior is only seen in captive elephants. They are signs of anxiety, boredom, and depression. They are signs that Billy needs to be freed immediately.
Billy has spent nearly 30 years at the Los Angeles Zoo, separated from the other elephants in an enclosure that is far too small to meet his needs. It is feared that unless he is sent to a sanctuary soon, Billy will succumb to a premature death like so many other elephants kept in captivity.
In the wild, elephants walk up to 40 miles a day and live in herds of up to 100 other elephants. Confining Billy to a six acre enclosure means that he's not getting enough exercise to maintain healthy joints and feet. And forcing him to live alone all these years is as cruel as keeping a person in solitary confinement for decades.
Animal welfare activists, city officials, and Care2 members like you have been working for years to free Billy to a sanctuary. Now, thanks to the public pressure that you've been putting on the zoo and LA City Council, Billy's fate could be decided within a matter of months. Sign this petition to help ensure that they make the right decision.
Thank you,

Lacey K.

P.S. This is a critical time in the #FreeBilly campaign, and we need your help now more than ever. Sign the petition to free Billy from the LA Zoo.
