ICE agents have been force feeding six immigrants through plastic nasal tubes during a hunger strike that’s gone on for a month inside a detention facility.
30 detainees from India and Cuba have been refusing to eat, and some are now so weak they cannot stand up or talk, 11 detainees at the facility have been on hunger strike for more than 30 days. Another four detainees are on hunger strikes in other facilities.
The men on hunger strike say they stopped eating to protest abuse and threats of deportation from guards. Two weeks into the hunger strike, a federal judge authorized force feeding of some of the immigrants. The force feeding by nasal tube is causing persistent nose bleeds, and vomiting several times a day, say the families of some of the men on hunger strike.
