In Spain, Hunters Murder Their Companion Dogs at the End of Each Season. Urge the Spanish Government to Ban This Inhumane Tradition!

Dear friends,
As Spain’s hunting season comes to an end, so do the lives of the dogs that were used to help hunters track and kill game. The worst part? This Spanish tradition of executing these dogs is performed by the animals' owners.
During the annual hunting season in parts of rural Spain, each hunter purchases around 10 to 70 Spanish greyhounds, called galgos. Dogs that don't perform during the season are abandoned and left to starve to death, thrown down wells, shot or, more traditionally, hung. Sadly, an estimated 100,000 galgos are killed each year by their owners.
The fact is, this massacre of galgos wouldn’t happen if hare coursing—the hunt's official name—were banned in Spain. A ban on this gruesome sport would not only spare these dogs from their eventual slaughter, but would also save the wild hares who are tracked, tortured, and killed.
Most European countries have already outlawed the sport—and it's time for Spain do the same. Sign this petition today to urge the Spanish government to ban this cruel "sport."
Thank you,
P.S. When owners hang underperforming galgos, "good dogs" are given the "honor" of being hung from a tall tree branch, while "bad dogs" are hung from a branch a few feet off of the ground. Watching the dog trying to get its foot on the ground even has a name: "piano playing." This blatant cruelty must be stopped—sign this petition today to urge Spain to end this deplorable tradition for good.
