Dear friends, During the April 24th episode set in Laos, The Amazing Racerequired contestants to ride an elephant across a body of water to receive their next clue. The host of the show explained to the audience that the elephants came from the Elephant Conservation Center, and were not "whipped or kicked." But the only way to train an elephant to give rides is through pain and fear. Sign this petition to demand that the producers of The Amazing Race apologize for glamorizing elephant rides, and issue a statement informing people that riding elephants is cruel. Every single captive elephant across the planet has been put through "the crush box." This is where the elephant is restrained and beaten with bullhooks, nails, and chains until the love of mother is replaced with the fear of the man holding the bullhook. There is no doubt that the elephants used in The Amazing Race all experienced this before the cameras started rolling. After watching the episode portray elephant rides as fun and humane, there are probably thousands of people who just added "ride an elephant" to their bucket list. That is why you must sign this petition demanding that The Amazing Raceimmediately makes it clear to viewers that riding an elephant is the same as supporting animal abuse. It is never humane.
