Dear friends,
In April 2019, the world met Dumbo, a skeletal baby elephant forced by the Phuket Zoo to "rave" to loud music, play instruments, and do other tricks for tourists three times a day every day. Over 200,000 people from around the world signed a Care2 petition demanding that the zoo free Dumbo to a sanctuary so that he could live out the rest of his life in peace.
But Dumbo never had the chance to find peace or even to know a single day lived without fear and pain. Less than a month after the global call for his freedom was sounded, he died behind bars at the Phuket Zoo.
The only reason that the zoo finally sought veterinary treatment for Dumbo was because public pressure forced them to do so. It was then revealed that Dumbo had been suffering from a digestive tract infection for months, which gave him constant diarrhea and made him incredibly weak.
Dumbo was so weak that when he got stuck in a mud puddle at the zoo, he broke both of his back legs trying to free himself. The Phuket Zoo didn't even notice that Dumbo's legs were broken for three days. By the time they took him to get treated, it was too late; Dumbo died in agony a week later.
The Phuket Zoo's torturous animal performances and extreme neglect killed Dumbo. But they continue to make many animals perform, including monkeys, crocodiles, and other elephants. They're also still legally allowed to purchase another baby elephant for their shows.
Sign this petition to demand that Thai authorities shut down the Phuket Zoo. It may be too late to save Dumbo, but it is not too late to stop the zoo from hurting countless other animals.
Thank you,

Lacey K.

P.S. Dumbo's story is heartbreaking. We can't let another animal meet the same tragic fate at the hands of this negligent zoo. Sign this petition to demand that Thai authorities close down the Phuket Zoo now.
