They spend much of their time in small enclosures and cages, only to be trotted out to perform.For wild animals like zebras and camels, being conscripted into a traveling circus can be death sentence. These poor creatures suffer physically and mentally. Getting a wild animal to perform tricks is hard, so many are beaten into submission to learn how to entertain. Even those who aren't physically assaulted experience depression from not being able to express their natural behaviors and loneliness from being separated from their herd or pack. That's why the new bill in the UK parliament to ban the use of wild animal in traveling circuses is so important. The last time time such a bill came up, Tory backbenchers shot it down, even though it was supported by the majority of the public.
