If someone were deeper interested in anarchism, I would certainly recommend a book by
Václav Tomek and Ondrej Slacálek Anarchism. Freedom against power , which was published in
2006, is a comprehensive overview of the evolution of anarchist ideas, both in history and
in their diversity. After this year's Anarchist Book Festival, I would like to add Peter
Gelderloos's book Anarchy Works , which illustrates how these ideas, whether consciously
or totally involuntarily, can be put into practice. ---- It has been a great choice since
the publishing house of the Anarchist Federation, as its production has in recent years
been focused on great and recommendable titles, but with a particular focus on history.
Anarchy worksis a multi-layered work without necessarily tending to become a multi-page
creeper suitable for pressing leaves into a herbarium, however the chosen topic would
allow. Its charm lies in the fact that it does not describe cases of functioning anarchy
individually, but gradually translates them into topics that are closely related to the
anarchist practice (and the problem of social order and the solution of various social
situations). However, the author is not ideologically narrow-minded, which allows such a
range of examples. They come from different times and from different places, "there are
about ninety. Thirty of them are explicitly anarchist; the rest are various stateless,
autonomous or consciously anti-authoritarian societies. "In addition, they try to avoid
idealizing the examples given, as their weaknesses are often enlightening, including
isolation, false alliances, external repression, cooperation with the current system or
temporary. Gelderloos often refers to anthropological knowledge and tries to avoid the
established Eurocentrism, which often does not avoid the anarchist movement. "Even the
central question of this book, namely, whether anarchy can work, is inherently
Eurocentric." Also sympathetic is that the author is not just an academic writing from the
table. The book is understandable to the average reader and is based on many of his own
observations and experiences from various places around the world.
To clarify what the book is about, Gelderloos outlines a brief definition of anarchy as "a
social situation without government and coercive hierarchies that are maintained by
self-organized horizontal relationships". Although anarchy can mean different things to
different people, there are several basic principles on which there is consensus: autonomy
and horizontality, mutual assistance, voluntary association, direct action, revolution and
self-liberation.
On concrete examples, the prejudice that people are naturally selfish, aggressive and
rival, that they have always lived in a patriarchy and that domination and authority is
natural, is gradually refuted. Excursions to different times and places answer questions
about how decisions will be taken and enforced, who will settle disputes, what will
motivate people to work, who will take care of the elderly and the sick, as with
education, exchange and management of large infrastructure, how cities will work, how to
deal with natural disasters, what about climate change, how to do without the police, how
to defeat the state and what to do next, or how to defend against an authoritarian neighbor.
But the book is not merely about informing and imparting knowledge that "anarchy is a far
more common thing than we might know", it wants to inspire above all. So, if you wake up
to your own activity, also pay attention to the warnings in it: "It is important not to
let your efforts be channeled into one of the channels that the system creates to control
and neutralize resistance. (...) To free ourselves, we must gain control of all aspects of
our lives: culture, entertainment, relationships, housing, education and health care, how
we protect our communities and provide food - in short, everything. (...) These stories
prove that anarchy can work. But we have to build it ourselves. The courage and confidence
we need, but you won't find this book. They are already in us. We just need to wake them up. "

Last Monday the Lutkemeer Gardens were evicted. Evicted to facilitate the plans of the
Schiphol Area Development Company to replace the last fertile clay soil of the city of
Amsterdam by an unwanted businesspark. As of Saturday night, protesters attempted to
protect the ecological gardens from this destruction. Around 50 neighbours, gardeners and
symphatisers gathered to defend the Lutkemeerpolder gardens. It did not help. Our ‘green'
municipality ordered the police-force to forcefully evict and the pumpkins, sunflowers and
hard work of dedicated gardeners was destroyed within four hours. Six people have been
arrested, of which four are still being detained. All of this for further expansion of
Schiphol airport.
On June 20th the municipality of Amsterdam proclaimed a biodiversity- and climate crisis.
The municipality promised to put a stop to policies that contribute to an ecological
crisis. But nevertheless, destructive project plans that have been designed 20 years ago,
are not being reconsidered and ‘business as usual' goes on freely.
On Friday the 6th of September we will continue our resistance; We welcome everyone to
join us.

Session One ---- The women's movement and working women have used a number of different
organising models and methods since the late 60s and early 70s in their fight against
patriarchy and exploitation at work. These struggles have taken place at work itself as
well as within the trade union movement, revolutionary politics, political parties and the
legal system, with varying degrees of success. Often we have felt as attacked and
beleaguered by our ‘comrades' as by our exploiters. We have tackled discrimination, fear,
sexual harassment and humiliation and tried to build solidarity, strength, power and
confidence through consciousness raising, practical and theoretical debate and
self-organisation and direct action. What are the issues facing working class women today
and what can we learn from past experiences in order to make our struggles more effective?
Session Two
There will be three speakers including a student involved in the strike movement. We will
focus on the following issues:
review of current climate change movement
how we implement in practice an anti-capitalist strategy that links the workers movement
with the environmental movement?
how far can technology be relied upon to combat climate change?

The right-wing government that succeeded Syriza decided to end this famous district of
Athens, the Mecca of anarchism and symbol of popular resistance. ---- In 2015, the Syriza
party, which presents itself as a left-wing alternative to the austerity policy imposed by
the Troika [1], campaigned with the slogan " Hope Comes " . If this hope was successful in
bringing Alexis Tsipras to power, he was soon showered. In a few months, the coalition of
the radical left and part of the social movement has metamorphosed to best apply European
directives or even anticipate. Syriza's economic policy did not stand out from those of
its predecessors Pasok (Greek PS) or New Democracy (ND, right).
It is therefore not surprising that in July, during the legislative elections, Syriza was
overthrown by New Democracy, led by Kiriakos Mitsotakis. The latter was elected on the
basis of a program very right, especially on issues of " security ".
One of his flagship campaign promises was the massive increase in police recruitment, with
1,500 additional positions. Security rhetoric works all the better in Greece as the
country has in recent years been the main gateway into the Schengen area for people who do
not have the chance to get a visa. Since 2015 in particular, the country is facing a
severe crisis of reception. For example, more than 630,000 people passed through the
island of Lesbos alone. Faced with this situation, the other European countries have
refused to welcome more people or have sought to close their borders and criminalize
irregular entry into their territory.
In Greece, a tremendous momentum of popular solidarity has accompanied the action of NGOs
to allow a dignified welcome possible. But the right and the overwhelming majority of the
mainstream media have for years been playing a dangerous game by equating crime, including
drug trafficking, with migrants and refugees. Symptomatic fact: the Ministry of Migration
Policy was absorbed by the equivalent of the Greek Ministry of the Interior, symbolically
delegating the reception of migrants to the police. Border and big-city controls have been
strengthened and the state seeks to speed up the return of migrants to Turkey, regardless
of respect for human rights. The right also annulled a decree that allowed access to
social security for migrants.
Authoritarianism as a solution to clientelism ?
New Democracy has dominated Greek political life for decades, alternating with Pasok.
Before Syriza came to power in 2015, these two party-institutions were largely served by
the state apparatus to place their respective lieutenants in strategic (and highly paid)
posts and to reward their loyal supporters, particularly in within the employers. The game
is to scream scandal when one is in opposition and to reproduce the same pattern once in
power. Barely a month after taking office, ND dismissed Vassiliki Thanou, former adviser
to Alexis Tsipras, as chair of the Competition Commission. But the best is yet to come:
New Democracy wants to " depoliticize the senior civil service "(sic) by prohibiting
access to an independent administrative authority to anyone who has held a position in a
cabinet or political office. It remains to be seen whether this will also apply to his own
supporters.
At the same time, Mitsotakis is promoting institutional reform aimed at strengthening the
power of the Prime Minister (to the detriment of other ministers and Parliament).
In education too, we find this same desire for control with a reform that proposes to
evaluate teachers throughout their careers. Universities, in particular, are
counter-powers that are far too embarrassing for this new government. The opening of
higher education to competition and the private sector is the same logic: to undress and
control the public sector of education to open new markets juicy for capitalists.
Country for sale
Mitsotakis surfaced on the popular discontent generated by ten years of drastic austerity.
Syriza boasted of having restored the country's financial balance and even being in
surplus, but at what cost ? Taxes have increased, while wages stagnate or decline. The
right had only to pick the fruit. It offers the luxury in July to reduce the property tax
by unanimously on the political chessboard. This tax, very unpopular in a country where
nearly three-quarters of the population owns, had become the symbol of the crisis.
On the other hand, the liberal program that Mitsotakis is preparing is clear and is made
to last: a reduction of taxes on companies, a multiplication of public-private
partnerships (for the renovation of the port of Piraeus in particular), a law allowing
employers to dismiss without giving reasons. decision and without warning the employee ...
Taxes on dividends should also be halved. And it is probably not the Troika that will see
anything wrong with this policy, even if it continues to watch.
Finally, to complete the picture, the first decree of the new government was, in two
lines, to remove the anti-fraud brigade of the Greek tax (SDOE). Created twenty-four years
ago to fight tax evasion (about 30 billion euros per year until recently), this brigade is
now a thing of the past. As a first political decision, it is difficult to make more clear
about its ambitions.
The thorny anarchist file
Greece is one of the countries in the world where the anarchist movement is the strongest.
Indeed, the student struggles of the 2000s and especially the uprising of December 2008,
after the assassination of Alexis Grigoropoulos (15 years old) by a policeman, contributed
enormously to the development of anarchism in this country.
Since 2015, a group has made itself particularly known under the name of Rouvikonas ("
Rubicon ") by multiplying actions of solidarity and mutual assistance, participation in
street demonstrations or direct actions against state institutions, foreign
representations (the French consulate has been repeatedly targeted) or representatives of
capitalism in Greece. Based on the Automedia, the group practices a form of direct action
that is radical and accessible. The speech is deliberately simple, the targets are often
consensual (headquarters of employers, Ministry of Defense, National Bank) and the actions
are claimed in the open.
New Democracy intends to solve the problem by transforming the law so that such actions of
the group fall under the antiterrorist legislation and that all members can be held
responsible for all actions on behalf of the group, including those where they and they
are not present. The most exposed of them and they incur at the moment sentences of
several years of prison for facts which normally fall, from a legal point of view, of the
simple vandalism.
The battle of Exarcheia
Rouvikonas is part of the myriad of anarchist collectives who live the Exarcheia district
in Athens. The Greek state estimates that the latter is home to 23 occupations, including
11 places of anarchist and anti-authoritarian collectives. The other 12 are home to
migrants and refugees, who would be homeless without the action of activists. Not to
mention the legal places (publishing houses, cooperatives run by activists ...) that also
exist in the surrounding area, and the self-managed park of Navarinou, erected for ten
years in place of a project parking.
But for the right, the district of Exarcheia, it is above all the drugs and the violence,
protected by the university " asilo ". Since the student uprising of 1973, the
universities are a sanctuary almost forbidden to the police. New Democracy intends to
abolish this law to be able to fetch protesters who take refuge there and prepare
themselves during clashes with the police. In Exarcheia, the famous Faculty of Polytechnic
is explicitly listed among the short-list of places to put in step for the new government.
In August, the police carried out no fewer than four raids in the neighborhood, citing
drug operations.
Behind this, the goal is to " clean " this central area to prepare it for the
gentrification and tourist rental market on which all the property developers are eyeing.
As Katerina Papakosta, NDP deputy who became Deputy Minister of Police in the Tsipras
government in 2018, puts it, the challenge is to " make Exarcheia la Montmartre " Greek.
Empty " peaceful " rebel places, then erase the graffiti that decorate the walls, " green
" the neighborhood, renovate the buildings and remove the libertarian imprint that has
shaped the area for decades by holding the police, l State and the mafias in respect.
The government is putting pressure on all sections of society, especially those who resist
the most. But the Greek social movement is not dead and the comrades are brewing their
weapons while waiting for future battles. As we go to press, a violent police attack
targeted four Exarcheia squats, two of which housed 143 exiles, brought to a center to
control their situation. Three other people were arrested. International solidarity will
have an important role to play in supporting resistance in Exarcheia.

The repressive attack of August 26 in Exarcheia with the invasion of an army of special
anti-terrorist units and CRS, the expulsion of four squats, the arrest of three squatters
and the detention of 143 refugees and immigrants and their evacuation squats, was the
first act of a war operation. An operation that has already been announced by the
authorities and which has been prepared by the small media Goebbelsistes, systematically
targeting the anarchist movement and all those who struggle ---- This operation took place
just after the adoption of anti-worker measures, the abolition of the "university free
zone", the strengthening of racist legislation against migrants and refugees and the
repressive attacks on squats in Athens and Ioannina. After the elections of July 7, the
new government, relying on the actions of the previous government, unveiled the program of
the coming years and pointed out its main enemies, the enemies of all governments:
anarchists, those who struggle, migrants refugees and workers. This campaign of war
against all those engaged in the struggle is part of the systematic effort of the Greek
state to subjugate social and class resistance and impose its domination. An effort that
has always come up against the wall of massive and dynamic mobilizations, revolts and
struggles.
The bankruptcy of the state and the capitalist system and the acceleration of its decay
lead to an intensification of exclusions, an endless violence against the poor, looting
and the irreparable destruction of nature, the death of persecuted populations the borders
and the survival in the misery of working modern galley.
At both the international and local levels, the dominant people fear the discontent and
anger of the people over these conditions, which leads them to improve their legal and
repressive fortifications, to an ideological war up to the dehumanization of their
opponents and those who criticize the regime. From Greece to France, authoritarian lackeys
target those they call "scum" and "garbage" as a prelude to the exercise of deadly violence.
They try to spread fear because thousands of people oppose it. The images of armed police,
the invasion of Exarcheia by the police and the evacuation of squats have many recipients:
all those who suffocate under this regime of exploitation and domination. It is to these
that the anarchist movement addresses itself, and it is from them that it draws its
strength. Nowadays, the massive and combative presence in the streets, the retaliation
against the new Praetorian Guard, the collective reaction of the people in struggle and
the oppressed are essential. The end of the battle against this repressive campaign will
have determined the balance of power, between the state and the bosses on the one hand and
the plebeians on the other, for the years to come.
By having solidarity as a weapon, the signal of counterattack is given to the brutality of
the state and capitalism. We revitalize the resistance of class and society. We call the
anarchist comrades, the squatters, all those who fight around the world to organize
mobilizations and actions in solidarity with the anarchist movement and the squats in
Greece. Internationalist solidarity could create another barrier against state and capital
projects and strengthen the resistance of all struggling peoples of the world.
As an anarchist political organization, we participate, support and call to the
mobilizations organized by the assembly NO PASARAN! anarchist squats, housing for refugees
and migrants, local and political groups in Athens, and the events of August 31 and
September 14. We are supporting the Libertarian Squat Festival in Thessaloniki (3-6
September) and we are calling for the protest against the Thessaloniki International Fair
on 7 September and the demonstration in Patra on Saturday 31 August in Esperos.

The war of Ukraine with the DNI / LC attracted many far-right from other countries to the
military structures on both sides of the conflict. This article shows the relationship of
a separate German right with the Nazis of Ukraine. The translation from the German
original was made by our friend Dmitry B. specially for avtonom.org and the channel
@antifajokes ---- Security agencies constantly warn of the dangers of so-called
"returnees," especially with regard to jihadists. Militant and highly ideologized men and
women, who in Europe are considered "time bombs," are a common place in the modern press.
However, neo-Nazis can also learn to own weapons abroad. We do not know the exact
information - how many extreme right are involved in a military conflict, for example, in
Ukraine. Below we write that German neo-Nazis regularly communicate with militarized
organizations in Ukraine, and that in the summer of 2018 they participated in training
firing. The hero of our report is probably connected not only with the neo-Nazi scene in
Rostock - with such groups as "Aktion Block",
Right in Ukraine
When the war broke out in eastern Ukraine in 2014, fascist volunteer associations such as
the Azov regiment and the like received support in Mariupol from a wide variety of
neo-Nazis from other European countries. As before, the regiment's symbol is the Black
Sun, as well as the Wolfs Angel runes. Not only the neo-Nazi Third Way party is deepening
mutual exchanges with the National Corps party, formed in 2016, but also neo-Nazis from
the "camera houses" structures (unofficial cultural associations of neo-Nazis in modern
Germany, the so-called "partnerships"). ) regularly visit Ukraine.
The non-military organization "Azov Civil Corps" in Kiev, the National Corps party and its
military unit "Azov" were able to create infrastructures - from schools and martial arts
halls, to rooms for concerts, events and ending with paramilitary training camps. This
steadily consolidating network seeks to strengthen the extreme right hegemony in Kiev. For
German neo-Nazis, who came from all over Germany to the neo-Nazi Asgardsray festival, held
in Kiev in December 2018, Ukraine offers new opportunities that they can only dream of in
their country. There is no need for Ukrainian neo-Nazis to disguise themselves and hide
that they are neo-Nazis, the "National Corps" and "Azov" position themselves as the
flagship model in the struggle for a "white Europe". As a result, Ukraine becomes a place
of pilgrimage, where German neo-Nazis can be trained to use weapons without much
difficulty. In the end, the Azov regiment is state-sanctioned, and the National Corps,
along with the neo-Nazi Freedom party, are parliamentary parties.
From the National Corps to the Action Block and the Baltic Corps
In August 2018, Ivan Batkin, who was born in Kiev and raised in Germany, also enjoyed
learning about various types of weapons. He proudly presents himself in dozens of photos
on social networks, for example, with an AK-47 assault rifle - lying on the ground,
sometimes during one-handed shooting training. "Where are you?", He is asked in the
commentary under the pictures "Don't you recognize? "- replies Ivan Batkin.
ATEK is the name of the industrial complex in Kiev, which was captured by the Azov
regiment and has since served as the central mobilization and training camp. "This is not
taught in Germany outside the army - the event presented in this article was interesting
and informative!" Batkin publishes a series of photographs and refers to the National
Corps. Batkin, who lives in Rostock with his parents, also shows in his photographs what
else was in the program besides shooting. Together with about 20 other neo-Nazis, he
participated in military sports training under the guidance of a coach of the National
Corps. The concept of mixing sport with weapons is widely known in Germany as "military
sport."
Thanks to the partnership with the Ukrainian Elena Belotserkovets, Ivan Batkin regularly
visits Kiev and on January 1, 2019, participated in the actions of the neo-Nazi
organizations Right Sector, National Corps and Freedom in honor of Ukrainian Nazis,
comrades-in-arms of Stepan Bandera. Just a few months before, Batkin was spotted at ADF
rallies in Rostock, for example, in September 2018, when Björn Höke was the speaker, and
in November 2018, when Batkin was spotted next to the Ukrainian flag. In March 2019, he
was also a member of another ADF procession, where he was photographed next to speaker
Michael Stürzenberger.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and especially in Rostock, the ADF marches were attended by
numerous organized neo-Nazis from the "Identity Movement", "Aktsionblok" and the
near-right group of football hooligans "Northern Rage". Ivan Batkin was on the "combat
blog" with David Mallow no later than March 2019, the organization with which he found a
connection. At the end of March 2019, a militant neo-Nazi group greeted the Azov regiment
in their account on social networks. In addition to Mallow, Ivan Batkin - can also be seen
in joint photos, as he holds the Ukrainian flag.
In the following months, Batkin was repeatedly seen in photographs of the Aktsionblok.
Together with Guido Hovald, who originally came from Salzwedel, he was shot as a
participant in the garbage collection campaign in the Aktionblok. Batkin's
"German-Ukrainian friendship" is tied to his relationship with Hovald and Aktsionblok.
The connection between the Ukrainians and the German Kamershavts (unofficial structures of
German neo-Nazis) seems obvious. It is also about collecting money: sometimes money is
collected for animal welfare associations and for other actions. The program also includes
"eyewitness lectures" - the stories of former soldiers of the Third Reich, as well as the
cultivation of the so-called "faith in nature". The latter is celebrated as part of the
solstice celebration. Both Batkin, and Guido Hovald, and David Mallow participated in such
a holiday in June 2019 at the Sven Krueger Hammerskins farm in Jamel.
Sport, especially martial arts, is also a central feature of Aktsionblog. Under the
"Baltic Corps" label, the main characters of the group, such as David Mallow, take part in
extreme right-wing tournaments and offer open training. For the "Battle of the Nibelungs"
announced this October, the Baltic Corps has even been named an official partner. "We are
those who do not need to wait for" Day X ", because we will be Day X"! ", Says the
self-presentation of the Baltic Corps. "Day X" is a widely publicized day of political
collapse when neo-Nazis want to be prepared to overthrow the government. A day that is
being prepared across borders is ideologically and practically. Weapon training, which
Ivan Batkin experienced in Kiev, is equally relevant to this, for example, the training of
the martial arts of the Baltic Corps in Germany.
From mid-July to early August 2019, Batkin again visited Kiev. On social networks, he
almost every day posted places he visited, including a visit to the Azovec Activist
Center, a kind of recreation and adventure park of the National Corps in Kiev. As part of
his visit to Kiev, photographs were also taken in which he poses for a t-shirt of the
Baltic Corps.
On July 15, 2019, the Young Alternative Youth Organization (JA) ADP in
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern placed a photo of Ivan Batkin in a T-shirt of their district
association. The caption was: "A patriotic holiday of greetings from Eastern Europe from a
new member of the Young Alternative." Batkin, who at that time met with neo-Nazis from the
Azov regiment, who received him as an activist of the Aktsionblok / Baltic Corps, as well
as a freshly baked member of the ADF youth organization.
A few days earlier, Batkin participated with Dario Seyfert, a member of the ADF in Western
Pomerania, on August 10, 2019, in the event of the Compact right-wing magazine in Berlin.
Some time later, Batkin was again represented on the ADF-Pomerania social network channel,
as he supported the ADF posters campaign at the beginning of the school - wearing a
T-shirt by the Russian neo-Nazi brand Bonmart Wear.
The example of Ivan Batkin shows that the ADF-Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is now again involved
in extreme right-wing structures. Already in April 2019, Exif released information that
ADF transferred large sums to Daniel Fiss in 2018 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Fissa, based
in Rostock, is the co-head of the Identity Movement in Germany. The ADF spokesman, Dennis
Augustine, directly referred to Fiss. Recently it turned out that Augustine participated
in the NPD (German National Party - Neo-Nazis, officially banned organization in Germany)
course in the past. At the beginning of July 2019, when assistance was provided, his
membership in the ADF was terminated, but the decision had not yet entered into force.
Therefore no wonder that Augustine was announced at the opening ceremony of the ADF
faction in Torgelov on August 16, 2019 as a member of the ADF. ADF youth organization,
co-organizer and organization of which Batkin was a member, also shared this information
on social networks.
The fact that Batkin was allegedly expelled from the ADF youth organization is more likely
fraud. Racist agitation and sympathy for neo-Nazis is a good tone in ADF and their youth
organization Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The use of weapons cannot, in their opinion,
discredit Batkin, because Dario Seifert himself likes to pose with a gun. Preparations for
the revolution - and, if necessary, armed revolution - it seems that this topic is
becoming popular not only within the framework of the usual neo-Nazi scene, but is
beginning to find its supporters in the ADF.
