Brisbane's Platypuses Are Disappearing. Tell the Queensland Government to Save Their Habitat!

Dear friends,
Everyone recognizes the tell-tale platypus face: the long duck bill, the squished lips. It's so iconic that humans regularly tease each other for making similar facial expressions. But what's happening to platypuses isn't cute, and it's no laughing matter. Right now, their populations are on the decline and soon, the species could disappear from right under our noses.
The situation is particularly acute and dire in Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland. That's why we're calling on the government of Queensland to protect platypus habitat before they're gone from the region forever! Will you join us?
Brisbane isn't the heartland of platypus habitat, but until now, it's always sustained a steady population of the unique mammals. For a long time, platypuses could found all along Australia's east coast. But new reports found there has been an alarming drop in Queensland's platypus population. What's worse is the government isn't even paying close attention.
As Brisbane and the surrounding areas develop, platypus habitat is being consumed by human neighborhoods. The semiaquatic mammal needs to be able to move around freely to find mates, lay eggs, and live its life. But with human construction all around, untarnished land has been carved up into a patchwork of disconnected areas that are hard to access. Everything else has been built on or paved over.
Platypuses are special animals. As a species, they're the only living members of their overall family and genus. But with their habitat vanishing, and their mating process interrupted, they're at risk of going extinct. We must do everything we can to protect those we have left.
Thank you for all that you do,
P.S. The famous duck-billed, beaver-tailed mammal we all know and love could be about to go extinct in Australia because of habitat loss. Tell the Queensland government to protect their platypuses before it's too late!
