Although the full-blown "night of barricades" promised by the "yellow vests" on September
21 did not take place in Paris, the protest movement seriously frightened those in power
and well-worn their nerves. The Macron regime pulled into the capital 7,500 police and
gendarmes, 4 armored personnel carriers (including 2 with water jets), a helicopter,
drones, 800 soldiers, a motorized brigade ... The yellow vests tried to break through the
Champs Elysees, which were forbidden for them, but stumbled to massive police forces.
However, in the evening, "hundreds" of protesters - mostly "ultra-leftists" from the
"black bloc" managed to penetrate the Champs Elysees and light barricades ...
But first things first. It is hard to say how many total "yellow vests" took to the
streets of Paris. Many of them simply did not put on the "uniform" of the movement in
order to act more freely. Most of the demonstrators who came to the capital from all over
the country intended to take part in the march of environmentalists for climate
conservation. But thousands of "yellow vests" and "black block" activists managed to join
the procession and lead it, entering into numerous skirmishes with the police,
constructing burning barricades and smashing bus stops and bank branches between St.
Michel Boulevard and Italy Square. The frightened environmental NGOs cowardly recommended
their supporters to leave the ranks of the demonstrators. Despite this, the 50,000th
motley crowd reached Bercy, where a banner was posted on the bridge:

In the morning, protesters calling for the Atack and Solidarity movements arrived at
Madeleine Square in Paris, but were dispersed
(https://www.ladepeche.fr/2019/09/21/a-paris-deja-plusieurs-centaines-de-manifestants-gilets-jaunes-et-39-interpellations,8429293.php).
From 9 a.m. the square looked like a fortress. Shops were closed, police patrols and
barriers everywhere ... The gathered groups of "yellow vests" were discussing what to do.
Two hours later, about a thousand demonstrators moved towards the Champs Elysees, but
without vests, so that, as explained by Yvette from Blois, not to be dispersed from the
very beginning. Cloter from Sarsel considered that this was not only the case: "We are no
longer yellow vests, we are citizens. The movement has changed. Today the fight is against
the Anti-Criminal Brigade, against the police, which with all impunity injures and
cripples" ...

"Paris, get up, get up!" - the demonstrators chanted under the roar of firecrackers. In
the quarter where the Saint-Lazare train station is located, the demonstrators were
blocked by police, who launched tear gas to disperse. "We are being treated like
criminals," environmental activist Brigitte resented. People chanted: "The street belongs
to us." The first barricade was erected on the corner of Malbourg boulevard and Lisbon
street. "This day is symbolic for us because of the combination of the struggle for
climate and against pension reform," said Eric, the "yellow vest" from Toulouse, who
arrived with his girlfriend. They were about to march against climate change this
afternoon. "We gathered this morning because the action was not declared, and we wanted to
demonstrate

The environs of Etoile Square and the Champs Elysees were surrounded and awash with police
patrols in uniform and in civilian clothes, who massively stopped and checked passers-by.
Some were tested 5-6 times. On the Champs Elysees street itself, people chanted "Work,
consume and shut up!" On the police order to "disperse," the call "thunder!" A water
cannon was installed in front of the Pyublisi dragster, and the Fuke restaurant, defeated
during the March 16 protests, was barricaded and guarded by the police
(https://www.ladepeche.fr/2019/09/21/a-paris-deja-plusieurs-centaines-de-manifestants-gilets-jaunes-et-39-interpellations,8429293.php)

In the afternoon, the Champs Elysees remained open, with yellow vests, gendarmes, visitors
and buyers of luxury stores mixed up there. Before the luxurious Fuke turned into a
bunker, anti-Macron slogans chanted. As soon as a large crowd formed, it was attacked by
police special forces and dispersed with tear gas grenades. The ousted retreated to
Marceau Street in the 8th arrondissement, carried tables and chairs from the terrace of a
luxurious restaurant. Some erected barricades, but in the end they were driven out by the
ripened reinforcements of the police special forces. Disappointed demonstrators resented
such use of state violence. "We are here to exercise our rights, but we are nothing in the
face of the repressive government," lamented 33-year-old worker Salem from Douai. "We need
to act more intensively. The time of pacifism has passed. I believe and hope that they
will get weapons. "Participants called for demonstrations in cities where there are fewer
police special forces: Renne, Toulouse or Strasbourg ... Protesters booed a passing
motorized brigade, chanting:" Killers! "," Dictatorship! "And singing rebellious songs ...

Those who did not get the opportunity to hold their demonstrations, the "yellow vests"
joined the ecological "march for climate", which started from the Luxembourg Gardens.
Organizers from Greenpeace, Alternatiba and other NGOs called on everyone to observe a
"consensus of non-violent action." Did not work out. The march was interrupted by violent
clashes between the "black block" and the police and the sea of tear gas. Activists of the
"black bloc" and "yellow vests" stood at the head of the procession, chanting radical
slogans: "Everyone despises the police" and "one, two, three degrees is a crime against
humanity".

In just three quarters of an hour, the first gas grenades flew. Demonstrators swept
around. Greenpeace and Youth for Climate called on Twitter to leave the march. The
pacifist activists retreated, gasping for breath, but many were blocked by police special
forces. No one knew where to go ... Broken shop windows, crushed bank branches, flaming
barricades, clashes - all this was from the very beginning of the march. Police prefecture
speaks of "1000 radicals," although in reality there were several times more. "For 60
years of demonstrations, I have not seen anything like it," admitted environmentalist
Marie. Those remaining in the ranks of the demonstrators after 16.00 continued the
procession in a steady rhythm. Soon, the demonstration began to disperse. But pacifists
committed to civil disobedience continued to hold on. When they reached Bercy, they
blocked the bridge and hung out banners: "Climate and social are one responsible, one
struggle." A few meters from there, objects continued to fly in the police and to burst
grenades with gas ...

The prefecture of the Paris police officially stated that 163 people were detained, of
whom 99 were detained (

With the onset of darkness and a march to the Place de la Bastille, protests in the Champs
Elysees resumed. Hundreds of activists and burning barricades at times forced the police
to retreat. "Yellow vests" nevertheless arranged something similar to the promised "night
of barricades" (https://www.facebook.com/cerveauxnondisponibles/videos/1771774649621810/?t=60)

The protests of the "yellow vests" for the 45th time took place in other cities and areas
of France. The day before, the movement of trucks on the border with Belgium was blocked.

In Toulouse, at least 1,200 people took part in the demonstration - yellow vests, climate
advocates, members of the movement against the decline in the purchasing power of the
population, supporters of the referendum movement, etc. The march began in the very center
of the city. The participants chanted: "We are here"; "Down with the state, cops and
fascists!", Wrote slogans on the walls and pasted posters on store windows. The banners
read: "General burnout", "End of the month, end of the world - one fight." During the
procession, some protesters set fire to urns. The news of dispersal and repression in
Paris infuriated the demonstrators. They began to chant anti-police slogans and make
offensive gestures towards the guards of the capitalist order. In total, authorities
mobilized 300 police and gendarmes. Gradually stones and bottles flew at the police; they
threw grenades with gas. Clashes took place on the corner of Bulbonne and Metz streets
shortly after 16.30 and on Bayar Street, and then on the alleys of Jean Zhores in the
direction of Strasbourg Boulevard. Having broken up into small groups, masked and
hard-handed protesters fought with the police. A persistent smell of gas spread along the
boulevards. Police reported 5 detainees

In Angers, police brutally attacked participants in the "yellow vests" festival, beating
and gasping anyone who came to hand. The demonstrations of the "yellow vests" were held in
Avignon, Bordeaux, Lyon, Montpellier and other cities ...

In the Volkswagen plant in Poznan, the management announced dismissal plans, which can
include up to 750 employees and which are associated with the automation of the production
process. In response to this announcement, the Inter-Enterprise Workers' Initiative
Committee at VW adopted a position critical of the company's plans. Below we publish its
content. ---- Automation - we all hoped it was the end of the race. ---- Ten years have
passed since the global crisis. Since then, the crew of Volkswagen Poznan has been working
with the belt tightened at twice the speed. After the crisis, the line speed increased
regularly, but employment did not change. Regularly tightening the screw. The current line
speed doesn't give you time to think; we work like machines. Over time, they made changes
on the weekends, as if we were really soulless and didn't feel anything. Such mindless
robots, just work. No more friends with families, just work.

Volkswagen has saved a lot of money over this period. In a short time he built a factory
in Wrzesnia and then started to move and improve the old factory in Poznan.

Then we heard about automation. We thought - the race is over! The reward will finally
come for this hard period. Our factory will begin to resemble those factories in Germany.
And this meant higher earnings for less intensive work, free weekends, and thus more time
for recovery and contact with loved ones and real bonuses. Not so divided into installments.

We believe that automation is necessary. It is necessary to eliminate heavy, non-ergonomic
positions. We all enjoyed the upcoming changes. But the truth turned out to be different.
Volkswagen sees in us only soulless robots. Cheap workforce. Volkswagen cannot understand
that cheap labor ended when slavery was abolished. Automation will help Volkswagen to
eliminate employees, which means tightening the belt and doubling turnover.

The largest trade union in this company - Solidarity, which has the greatest impact on
these changes, does nothing. Each time he agrees to the metamorphoses imposed by
Volkswagen. He agreed to additional changes on weekends, agreed to reduce the salary for
Sunday overtime, agreed to deprive the inflation supplement. Now he is agreeing to layoffs.

In our opinion, such moves will take us away from competing factories. We are constantly
compared to western Volkswagen factories. Only the quality and number of cars produced is
compared. Compare earnings. Compare the work intensity. We earn less and less. We are
doing more and more. Enough of that!!! Instead of dismissals, we demand a slower pace of
work and working time!!!
