This company's negligence has killed people and destroyed towns.

Under PG&E's leadership towns have burned to the ground and people have died from fires caused by their faulty lines. It's time for the state to take over.

Dear friends,
California is on fire. Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes. An area larger than the city of Baltimore is burning in Sonoma County alone and record-breaking dry winds are only increasing the risk.
Fire season is getting longer and deadlier thanks to climate change. But in the northern part of the state, there's another acute threat: Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E).
PG&E is the monopoly utility that powers all of Northern California. For decades, while they've raked in profits on high electricity prices, they've failed to do even the most basic maintenance of their utility lines. Last year's Camp Fire that obliterated the town of Paradise was caused by a spark from a poorly maintained PG&E line. PG&E's gross negligence led to the death of 86 people in Paradise alone. To pay for the damage they caused in 2018, the utility had to declare bankruptcy.
Yet, PG&E's leadership hasn't learned. The Kincade Fire in Sonoma was found to be caused by another of their unmaintained lines. Instead of spending the past year investing in fixing some of their worst infrastructure, PG&E tried to pay their executives $16 million.
PG&E is the poster child for why unregulated monopolies are dangerous. With guaranteed revenue and no external pressure to make improvements, PG&E has enriched its executives while putting the health and safety of tens of millions of people at risk. They've shown time and again they can't be trusted to do the right thing. We need an institution that's accountable to the people to step in and fix their mess.
Thank you,

P.S. PG&E has repeatedly shown they can't be trusted to provide safe electricity. California should step in and take over the utility.
