By exploring and understanding the stories and lessons of the past, we are better able to fight for our rights and liberties in the present and take those struggles into the future.
The Statewatch Library & Archive holds thousands of books, documents, ‘grey literature’, official reports, pamphlets and other material from social movements, campaigns, government agencies and human rights organisations from across Europe and beyond.
In 2018 we were able to formally open the Library & Archive to the public for the first time. The onset of the coronavirus pandemic has forced us to close it – but with your support, we can digitise more of our archive, bringing it to a far wider audience.
Can you help people learn from history and advance the fight for civil liberties by becoming a Friend of Statewatch?
“This archive is about telling the stories of others, particularly people who don't have an economic or political power. That contribution to diversity, and pluralism and understanding is enormously important and enriches our democracy today. This archive initiative is absolutely great and I hope everyone will support it."
- Aidan White, President of the Ethical Journalism Network
Like many organisations we are under severe pressure. To fund our core work in 2021, we need to raise £40,000.
Help us to bring our archives to people around the world, and use the lessons of the past to inform the present and improve the future – become a Friend of Statewatch today.
