Dear friends,

In one video, a hungry pig trapped inside a metal cage with another pig — dead and laying on its side — leans in and bites off a chunk of the deceased animal's stomach. With no one there to provide it proper nutrients or to remove its dead companion, it proceeds to chew its fellow animal. Other pigs try to move around in their overstuffed cells, climbing over one another and then slipping, accidentally crushing baby piglets in the process. Staff bring out high-voltage electrical prods, shocking and punishing the animals into submission. These are the conditions inside Herta facilities, a French frankenfurter brand partially owned by Nestlé.

Pigs are highly social creatures. They form deep friendships and bonds, and they care for each other immensely. For them to live in this way inflicts horrific psychological damage. On top of that, it's also illegal. Many of Herta's practices — including chopping off or "docking" pigs' tails — are explicitly banned in the European Union. Herta has also been forcing dozens of pharmaceuticals into its animals, including "last-resort" antibiotics that are supposed to be reserved for urgent human use. What Herta is subjecting these pigs to is not a life. It's wrong, inhumane, and illegal, and there must be consequences NOW. Sign the petition to demand that the French Minister of Agriculture, Didier Guillaume, shut down this horrific operation at once!

Thank you for all that you do,

Miranda B.

P.S. Now that undercover footage has exposed the cruelty at Herta facilities, French leaders must intervene. France must use Herta to set an example by enforcing serious repercussions for its crimes.
