#WORLDWIDE #WORLD #HumanRightsWatch #News #Journal #Update - #China’s ‘Belt and Road’ Dam in #Cambodia is a Rights Disaster
Thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods since the completion of one of Asia’s widest dams, the Lower Sesan 2, in Cambodia’s Mekong River Basin.
Built as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, the dam, which spans well over six kilometers, has cut off vital migration routes for native fish species, and displaced numerous Indigenous and ethnic minority communities.
Warnings that it would leave fishing communities worse off were ignored. Some of those who refused to resettle were threatened.
A new report explores how the dam washed away the livelihoods of Indigenous and ethnic minority communities who previously lived communally and mostly self-sufficiently from fishing, forest-gathering, and agriculture.
One year ago, the center of Minsk was teaming with people protesting stolen presidential elections and asserting their voices matter. To stifle these voices, the government unleashed a war on civil society.
Palestinian and Israeli authorities have a long track record of failing to investigate alleged war crimes, highlighting the importance of the International Criminal Court’s investigation into Israeli and Palestinian conduct.
