The following report was sent to us about the police operation on the
Möllerbrücke in the night from Friday to Saturday: ---- On Saturday eveningaround one o'clock, our heroes in uniform had to do everything they can to
protect law and order in Dortmund. This time the crime scene was the Möllerbrücke
in Dortmund, where about 150 wanted to end their well-deserved Friday evening. It
started when two firecrackers were detonated on the bridge. The heroic police had
to rush up for the first time to ensure safety. After the cops had expertly
calculated the potential risk by driving a patrol car and two tubs slowly past
ten times, a first attempt at contact was made. This was stopped at short notice
after a bottle flew near the cops. It was evacuated quickly and the reverse gear
was engaged. Another bottle flew and burst on the bull's tub as a farewell. About
an hour later, a fully helmeted - equipped with clubs and pepper spray - a
hundred, including dogs without a muzzle, was summoned to face the danger. These
maybe 70 cops then stormed the bridge quite unannounced after they had previously
observed the danger about 30 meters away for almost 15 minutes. Everything that
hadn't come down from the bridge fast enough was immediately pounded and
bludgeoned away. It was advanced quite quickly. The one or two bottles that flew
in response to the cops ensured that a few more young people who had done nothing
except celebrating on the Möllerbrücke got pepper spray sprayed in their eyes at
close range. In places already several meters behind the Möllerbrücke, the actual
high-risk area that the heroes should secure. The crowd was finally driven around
200 meters behind the Möllerbrücke. Of course there was also the usual banter,
for example the cops shining their flashlights in cell phones that were filming
to prevent the filming.
What we then have to say after this experience report: After the transshipment
point at the port, a public place where many people met, has already been turned
into an inaccessible construction site, the Möllerbrücke should be the next place
to the evening and non-commercial Hanging out gradually becomes impossible and
"pacified". It remains unclear where all the people who cannot or do not want to
afford the expensive gastronomy should go. And the city shows once again that it
prefers to deal with this lack of clarity and the justified frustration that
regularly erupts on the streets of our city with the violence of helmeted police
officers rather than with real solutions. Meanwhile, our demands remain clear: We
don't need pacified and fully commercialized neighborhoods, in which there are
only offers for high earners. We reject the further militarization - especially
of the poor neighborhoods - of our city. We need a city that we design from
below, out of our neighborhoods. We need well-networked neighborhood structures
that can offer an alternative to state violence.
For a city for everyone!
