The municipal elections will take place tomorrow and a whole parade of candidates
has tried to sell us their salad and lull us into their illusions. Change, everyone wants in this system which rots our lives. Then, we are told that themunicipal government would be a political institution closer to us and moreconducive to bringing about profound changes... which we are nevertheless waitingfor election after election! In the contemporary electoral circus, we are stillwaiting for the arrival of the providential figure who will come to counter thecapitalist chaos and the tendencies to the infinite increase of the inequalitiesbetween the richest and the poorest. The evil does not lie in the hope for abetter world, on the contrary.Beyond the promises, even the most progressive and stubborn "providential" beingwill be inclined to respond to the demands of the local bourgeoisie the day afterNovember 7. We live in a capitalist society, that is to say, by definition, allthe means of production are in the hands of the richest. Does that still surpriseanyone? In this system, political institutions were formed not to ensure a formof democracy, but to serve the needs of big business in the public sphere. It isno coincidence that despite the overwhelming majority of the population is notrich, one finds, election after election in this so-called democracy, onlycandidates who defend the interests of the richest. The green or evensovereignist blue varnish is added as desired,We must not forget that these false hopes are political and respond to theinterests of a system which wishes above all to be maintained. In the control ofinfrastructure, the capitalist city pursues its role of social control. Like thewalls erected in another era to prevent nomadic incursions, the city defendsprivate property against experiences of autonomy and direct re-appropriation ofspaces and facilities by the people who inhabit the area. What is the point ofbeing satisfied with reforms for one or two more pedestrian crossings every 10years when we have the capacity to do a lot more on our own in a weekend? However, there is no lack of skills and creativity when we meet the people of ourneighborhoods. What is missing is the collective and individual power that peoplehave lost in this relationship with the institutions and the capitalist system;the power to change things on our own by organizing ourselves with people likeourselves and with our own resources. It is a rupture which requires, oneunderstands it, to pass over the sacrosanct private property and itscannibalistic individualist logics - which the municipal institutions, framed bythe laws, the political structures and the economic powers will never do. . It isnevertheless a rupture that the Emma Goldman Collective is trying to build, likemany others who help each other in the neighborhood, through concrete actions indowntown Chicoutimi. It must be seen that the State and its institutions (even atthe municipal level), fundamentally, do not share the same interests of thepopular and working classes of our communities. While they ensure social control,we wish to meet our needs and free ourselves together. This is also why I will not vote tomorrow. An anarchist of the unceded lands of NitassinanPosted 3 hours ago by Collectif Emma Goldmanhttp://ucl-saguenay.blogspot.com/2021/11/la-ville-et-les-promesses-reformistes.html_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
