A new issue of the anarchist magazine Existence has been published, which is
dedicated to the Paris Commune, whose 150th anniversary we are commemorating thisyear. ---- The first issue of Existence this year was dedicated to the 100thanniversary of the death of the anarchist thinker Petr Kropotkin, and the secondis of a historical nature - this time we focused on the Paris Commune, which wasexactly 150 years old since March 18 this year. It is true that, except for a fewarticles, we have never addressed this important and inspiring event, which isconsidered to be the first socialist revolution. So there was a great opportunityto fix it.After an introductory text on the topic, in which we focus, among other things,on the parallels of what was happening at the time with the situation of theturbulent year 2011, comes a longer summary from our favorite anarchist historianVadim Damier. It represents the Paris Commune, but also other attempts to declarethe commune in other cities, in historical contexts, as well as its internaldynamics with a number of aspirations and at the same time mistakes made inover-reliance on the representative government. Among other things, PetrKropotkin also discusses these errors in a text consisting of three articles hewrote on the occasion of the 9th, 10th and 11th anniversaries of theestablishment of the Commune. For a better idea of the hasty events of thosefamous seventy-two days, but also of what preceded and what followed, we bring abrief chronology of the most important.Communal luxury . The author analyzes theideological yeast before the proclamation of the Commune and the development ofideas after its massacre, especially with regard to the works of William Morris,Élisée Reclus and Petr Kropotkin. As period documents, we recall the anarchistLouise Michel when she stood trial and the Call to the French People, in whichthe Commune presents its federal program. We will also briefly stop at theresponse that the Commune had in the Czech Republic, and at the fact that to thisday it is a pain in the ass for many returnees.Further in the issue you will find an interview with Noam Chomsky, who talksabout the political situation in the United States and the workers' tradition inthis country. The overview of the ten-year existence of the Anarchist Federationof Gran Canaria is very inspiring, especially in the question of a radicalsolution to the problem of housing. It is inconceivable how much amazing workthere is behind this group in such a short time, which has a positive impact onthe lives of a large number of people, their political imagination and their owninvolvement. In the local context, we are dealing with the police killing of Roma by StanislavTomá?, who was inadvertently turned into a racist cause by the police andpolitical leaders with their statements and behavior, and made it clear that thelife of the killed man does not matter, especially given that it was a Roma underthe influence of drugs and that police officers were involved in his death andusually enjoy de facto impunity in such cases. On the magazine's pages, we also introduce personalities of the anarchistmovement from various countries that have left us in recent months, such as LucaVilloresi, Francisco "Paco" Baticón, Nelson Méndez, Bayram Mammadov, Marc Tomsin,Enrico "Bakunino" Ranieri and Pietro Ferrua. In addition, we recall the younganti-fascist Clément Méric, who was killed by a neo-Nazi in 2013, and theanarchist veteran Abel Paz, whose birth has passed a hundred years since this year.In the overview of the activities of the anti-authoritarian movement in the CzechRepublic, you can read, for example, about the Anarchist Book Festival, eventsthat preceded or were directly related to the visit of Zapatistas in Prague, about local support for the Polish Women's Strike, actions for Palestinian andPalestinian rights, various forms. protests for climate justice, including a cityclimate camp in Bratislava, a demonstration for justice for Stanislav Tomas, protests against the military junta in Myanmar, a happening in front of theHungarian embassy in connection with the local spying of independent journalistsor various charity events. In a separate section, the Anarchist Federation introduces its activities in thecontext of protests against the repression in Colombia and Myanmar, for theadmission of Zapatistas to France and against the police killing of StanislavTomas. It provides an overview of the projects and spaces it has financiallysupported and refers to its new publications, such as Anarchist Ethics by PetrKropotkin or a diary for 2022 on the Spanish social revolution. As always, the texts of the A3 wall newspaper , published from the previous issueof Existence, are not missing . This time they focus on the death of the richestCzech, the uncontrollable coronavirus crisis, the military coup in Myanmar, theculture of rape, the killing of Stanislav Tomas by the police, the NATO debaclein Afghanistan and the autumn elections. We also looked at what publications were published within the anti-authoritarianmovement. So you can read reviews of Rote Zora and Buric magazines and books andbrochures such as Prosperity for All and Anarchism.
