Czech Television broadcast the documentary "Disobedient" about the history and
present of Czech anarchism. ---- In October, the documentary Disobedientpremiered on Czech Television . In the first footage of the Black Fighters'protesters during the International Monetary Fund summit in 2000, I was afraidthat it would be another superficial image of anarchists full of footage that wassupposed to shock an ordinary burgher. Fortunately, this is not the case and Ican say at the outset that it is one of the best articles on anarchism that hasever run on television. And its author Ivan Stehlík deserves thanks for that.It is very nice that no political scientist reproducing the theory of extremismso popular with repressive forces gets a word here. On the contrary, anarchistsand anarchists, for example from the Anarchist Federation, the historicalassociation Zádruha , Food not Bombs, former editor of A-kontra, defender of theClinic, accused in the Fénix case, guerrilla gardener, member of the Limitsinitiative, are us and as someone from outside who had opportunity to meetanarchists more than once, sociologist Fedor Gál. It is his view of anarchiststhat is a good illustration of their own self-presentation when they talk aboutwho they think is an anarchist and what anarchists actually want. The effort of the diggers from Zádruhy to discover a secret printing house in thebasement of the cottage, in which Josef Paces printed subversive materials in themid-1980s, is like a red thread. With bated breath, you wait all the time to seeif they manage to demolish the entire cottage. It is from this search that anumber of convenient parallels of today's anarchist movement and that whichoperated in the Czech Republic at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries unfold. And so we move from the then anarchist press to the current publishingactivities. We observe that even though anarchist principles are still the same, anarchism also responds to current problems, such as the climate crisis. Theperiod quote from 1906 against the background of police repression against theclimate blockade is a testament to how the state still acts in the tow ofbarbarians. The attempted railway assassination of Emperor Franz Josef in 1891,when the attackers were never captured, contrasts with the Fénix case, whennothing happened but the police, with the help of their agents, produced theperpetrators. Fortunately, this police activity is completely overembarrassment .Hence the non-violent question of the relationship between anarchism andviolence. The anarchist past of Prague's Žižkov with characters such as Kácha ,Vohryzek, Hašek and Sauer , who organized the first squatter movement in Žižkov ,is connected with the story of the Clinic .The fate of some anarchists who went to politics after the First World War, satin offices and in parliamentary seats in order to betray their former ideals andstill achieve nothing anyway also makes a beautiful parallel. Today's reflectionof this approach in the film is represented by the former defender of the Clinic, who is now working on party work. When he says in his twenties, "the anarchistyears are over," he beautifully illustrates how even a young person can quicklytake a conservative view of political engagement and reproduce the prejudice thatradicalism is only a passing sign of youthful recklessness. I can't help butremember the recently deceased Martin Arnal Mur , who, even in his old hundred, did not have anarchist years. From the anarchist point of view, the inclusion of the politician Petr Pávekdoes not fit into the document at all, although from the author's point of viewit certainly has its relevance, and it kind of pushes the topic out of therelatively closed bubble of the current anarchist movement. In addition to protests against the IMF, the 52-minute footage also featuresfootage from the 1998 Global Street Party and May Day 2012 and 2015 . So evenwitnesses will come to their senses... and all who are convinced that healthydisobedience is the standard of a critical person, as Fedor Gál states. You can watch the documentary film Naughty directly on the Czech Television website:https://www.ceskatelevize.cz/porady/12640545044-neposlusni/https://www.afed.cz/text/7540/nepoustejte-si-anarchisty-do-sklepa_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
