After its first congress, the Workers' Initiative (IP) took another step in its
promotional efforts - at the end of November, it published the first issue of itsmagazine Práce . ---- This is not the first anarchist periodical to bear thisname. In the years 1905-8, the Czech Anarchist Federation published an anarchistfortnightly in Prague-Žižkov under this title, under the editorial auspices ofMichael Kácha . In 1998, four issues of the Syndicalist Faction of theCzechoslovak Anarchist Federation were published under the work Práce . ---- Itreads at the outset: "Disgusted by politics and politicians, we want to changethings for the better by our own power." After all, our daily lives are politics,and clinging to political neutrality in the past has usually meant a path toreformism and a pragmatic resignation to expressing revolutionary views. So far,however, the Labor calls for a "self-governing society based on the collectiveownership of the means of production," which is a rather political demand that isde facto taboo in the current capitalist establishment.But IP has a long way to go. First of all, it tries to "create a communicationnetwork of employees across the Czech Republic" and to address those who havesome problems at work. It also opens up to students and anticipates why it isnecessary to unite in the face of the incoming right-wing government. IPrepresents how different its approach within trade unions and groves is, how itdiffers from existing large trade unions and on what principles it is organized.In the first issue, in addition to the number of agitation recruitmentcontributions of the IP, in brief comments, among other things, it deals with theessence of the so-called liberal democracy, the issue of the minimum wage or theform of the strike within the Czech Post. The second half of the work consists ofreports on trade union activities in the Czech Republic (strike in RUKO in Kyjov,emergency strike in Liberty in Ostrava, negotiations of OS KOVO on wageincreases) and abroad (strikes on German railways, general strike in Italy,struggle for wage increases at Jeremias in Poland, direct actions for the paymentof wages). The older text then introduces the Polish Inicjatywa pracowniczna,which is a great source of inspiration for IP.The magazine is free to download, or the IP offers its sending, and only for apostage fee of CZK 20 (press fees are of course welcome).
