 The show Viril presents a series of feminist and anti-racist texts, embodied by

the voices and bodies of the actress Béatrice Dalle, the author Virginie
Despentes, the rap artist Casey and accompanied by the music of the Lyon
post-rock group Zëro . ---- The staging is simple. Three musicians and three
desks. And slamming texts. Texts in various forms but always with the same revolt
at heart, this same rage against the patriarchal, racist and capitalist system.
---- Texts written years ago by Monique Wittig, Valérie Solanas, Audre Lorde,
June Jordan, Leslie Feinberg which have not aged a bit. Others more contemporary,
but just as powerful, of Zoe Leonard, Itziar Ziga or Paul B. Preciado.

The haunting and heady music of the group Zëro perfectly accompanies these
readings. Casey, Béatrice Dalle and Virginie Despentes embody these texts that we
are more used to reading than hearing. Various texts which address, each in their
own way, the fights against gender-based, sexual, racist, homophobic, transphobic
violence, against this class violence.

And it feels good to hear them, especially to hear them declaimed with such
intensity. The anger, the sorrows, the joys and the revolts of all the authors
and authors of these texts pierce us. We are transported, bewitched in this
ceaseless fight for equality and the emancipation of all.

A special mention here for Casey's performance. His reading of The Ball by Paul
B. Preciado hits the mark and strikes the audience with its power and emotion.
When she chants Of The Use of Anger: The Response of Women to Racism by Audre
Lorde, the pace picks up and Casey unleashes all his rage against this racist
system and its many facets.

Casey literally taps us to the back of the seat, gives us a big salutary and
necessary slap proving once again that she is a personality apart in French rap.

A spectacle that is also beneficial and necessary.
