December 11 was held the 3 e Consultation end of the Noumea agreement paving the
way for a possible independence Kanaky. We recall that Kanaky is still, in fact,a colony from which the French State benefits for economic (notably Nickel) andgeo-strategic (maintenance of French influence, in particular military, in thePacific) and whose sovereign decisions are taken in metropolitan France. Kanakresidents still suffer from strong social and racial discrimination and havealways claimed their independence. ---- After decades of fierce struggles (withits bloody episodes) the Matignon (1988) then Nouméa (1998) agreements weresupposed to act as a decolonization process over 20 years leading to a series of3 consultations on the future of Kanaky regarding to its full sovereignty.Despite France's strategy of "settlement colony" (strategy of minority Kanakpopulations), the two previous consultations had seen the independence campstrengthen, winning over non-Kanak populations and forcing the French governmentout of the country. "Neutrality" he was supposed to observe - yet how to beneutral when you are judge and party ?In the meantime, the COVID health crisis, which mainly affected the poorest Kanakpopulations, was the pretext to put pressure on the independence camp byinstrumentalizing the dependence on French health aid, thus playing on the fearof "leap into the unknown". While separatists call for months to a postponementof the 3 e consultation, due to the high rates of death and the culture of longmourning not for the good performance of the campaign, the French governmentopted interested trampling on the opinion of the independence camp and localcustoms by maintaining the vote. Logically, the separatist organizations havemassively called for non-participation in the ballot.The results of the 3 th referendum for self-determination of the habitant.esKanaky speak for themselves: 56.13% abstention rate of 96% and a minority havevoted to keep the colonial fold.As long as the mapping of these figures is looked in the face and carefullyanalyzed, the colonial state, instead of speaking of humility through the mouthof its president, must face the evidence of the message of independence that theKanak people overwhelmingly and "passively" sent him back.By superimposing the results of the three ballots with those of the turnoutrates, it becomes clear that when the turnout increases, as in the second ballotof 2020, the yes for independence increases significantly. Conversely, when theparticipation drops massively, as for the last ballot, the retention in thecolonial fold is strongly expressed by the participating minority. Adding to thisthe fact that the Kanak people today represent only 39% of the population, thewill for liberation is overflowing from all sides ! The French state is disownedin Kanaky and more than ever French imperialism is rejected.The rushed announcements by the Macron government signaling the end of theconsultation process in favor of the loyalist camp are irrelevant, absurd,illegitimate and provocative. The struggle for independence will logicallycontinue and the French state will bear sole responsibility for any legitimateexpressions of anger that may follow.We note that the population directly concerned by the decolonization process, andin particular the Kanak organizations, do not recognize the result of thisreferendum offered to the supporters of French New Caledonia.
