 On November 6, Monsieur Bonheur inaugurated his "This is London" exhibition. This

young photographer spent several years capturing on film the neighborhoods of his
youth in Seine-Saint-Denis. Since 2019, it is across the Channel that he directs
his objective. ---- In London, he continued the research begun in the suburbs of
Paris. The goal: to show the life of popular neighborhoods beyond the
journalistic cliché of a lost and violent youth, to show real lives. In London,
it is locals who guide him and allow him to discover English life. ---- In his
photos are found his interests for life in the public space, street food,
architecture and music (sometimes yielding to clichés). But in an unknown city,
with a keen eye, the photographer also sees video surveillance cameras, to the
point of devoting a room to his exhibition. The gazes are competing, the one that
criminalizes dangerous classes and the one that tries to represent them honestly.
Monsieur Bonheur's artistic project allows other stories to be expressed.

These stories are necessary today, we have to make people hear them, we have to
show the life of the working classes. The photographer by changing country,
assumes an internationalist project, trying to show what brings us together.

If a dominant culture has globalized, so too have dominated cultures. Our class
shares practices in the world and circulates ideas, Monsieur Bonheur shows it
brilliantly. As an illustration of Gramscist theories, the photographer shows a
popular culture drawing unashamedly from all areas including mass culture, and
inscribes his work in this culture.

In the center the gaze and the creative autonomy of the dominated, a historical
theme of working-class art. Far from a limited realism, it is a living and
pulsating art, with an assumed political project.
