Unfortunately it wasn't about the Christmas package,which we don't even have. He appeared to have seen the Radical Riders protest atthe Gorillas headquarters, and had read my story on the site. He was not veryhappy about it and accused me in that telephone conversation of having been atthat protest. Now the best man does not know what I look like so how heestablished this fact is unclear. I was not at the protest. The HUB manager addedto these strange suspicions that I had better stop working at Thuisbezorgd if Ihad so many complaints about it. This incident is typical: it gives a goodindication of the relationship between manager and worker at Thuisbezorgd.What did I complain about? You can read that in Ömür Sönmez, Home delivery:overworked, underpaid, organizing. I was forced to do dangerous work, had severalaccidents and subsequently suffered financial kicks. Disrespectful managers and1984 practices through apps. However, I will not repeat that story here.Delivered at home: 'the problem is that people raise problems'.Back to the phone call with HUB manager. What he may not have realized, or didn'twant to realize, is that I'm not the only one with such complaints. Complaintsthat are a symptom of a larger problem at Thuisbezorgd and the other deliveryapps. An honest manager who respects his deliverers as equal people would look atsuch complaints and sincerely look for a solution. But unfortunately that is notthe case. A post-Christmas one-on-one conversation was directed between me andthat manager to discuss it. Only to a manager, especially such a manager, is thegods request. And the problems certainly weren't just me. So I said: let's sitdown as a team, with several workers involved. HUB did not like such an openconversation. Christmas came and went: I hoped The Grinch's heart had grown threetimes after Christmas. Unfortunately, as it turned out: HUB was still stuck inthe first act of A Christmas carol.Home delivery, in black and white: 'you will be fired because you expressedcriticism online'.I was fired on January 7. In the newfangled way. My contract was not renewed. Asupervisor sent me an impersonal message and that was it. The reason given was mymessage on the Radical Riders website. I was not accused of spreading lies ornonsense. No, that I had dared to come out, that was in conflict with 'the valuesthat Thuisbezorgd strives for'. At the time I had asked if I could then know fromhim what values I had gone against. There was no concrete answer. What I myselfhave been able to get from this is that obedience belongs to one of those values.If you share your experiences, that was explained to me, then it "only makessense" that I was treated that way. The arrogance of Thuisbezorgd is finallyapparent from the fact that they have put the above in black and white withouthesitation. This is what I mean by manager-worker relationships. Home deliverytries to shut me up stupidly and does it with impunity in all openness.Radical Riders: 'An attack on one is an attack on all of us.'Unfortunately for home delivery this goes against my values, namely the freedomto express your complaints with concern, the freedom to improve your workingconditions without having to be afraid. My values strive for more unions andworkers' rights. That is why it only seems fair to me to return the agitation ofThuisbezorgd with our own form of solidarity.
