In Spain, in 2021, more than 200 collectives came together in the Aliente
collective and demonstrated to defend another model for the development ofrenewable energies. ---- A year ago, at the beginning of 2021, 80 Spanishorganizations joined together to form the Aliente collective: the Energy andTerritory Alliance. There are now more than two hundred naturalist associations, local collectives for the defense of the environment and ecological action groupsthat are gathered in this collective of national scope. They defend another modelof development of renewable energies and the preservation of biodiversity in theface of industrial projects. The creation of Aliente follows the alert launched by around twenty scientists atthe end of 2020: for two decades, industrial projects for the production ofrenewable energy have been developed on a large scale throughout the Spanishterritory to the detriment of this one, of its inhabitants and localbiodiversity. The current centralized energy model saturates the soil withlarge-scale renewable energy projects and high voltage power lines, devastatingthe landscape and biodiversity, while encouraging an ideal of a consumerist society.Biodiversity devastatedThe organizations of the Aliente collective share the observation of thescientists: if the energy transition in favor of renewable and carbon-freesolutions is necessary, it must above all be social and be done with respect forhumans and living things. It is unacceptable that this transition serves as agreen showcase for capitalist industries and allows them to overshadow lessharmful and energy-consuming alternatives.Faced with this observation, the Aliente collective has drawn up, with thesupport of more than 250 scientists, a list of 13 measures for a just energytransition which aim to guarantee the conservation of biodiversity, of thelandscape by developing a model decentralized and equitable energy. Theorganizations seek to make these measures known to the entire Spanish populationfor a viable alternative and have presented them to the Spanish government forimplementation.Among these are an exclusion zone plan limiting the construction of large-scalerenewable energy infrastructures, the need for the completion of the Natura 2000network or the rigorous, independent and scientific census of the speciesaffected to proper assessment of environmental impacts. In summary, the Alientecollective defends the regulation by law of the development of the territorialestablishment of renewable energy production industries. It promotes regulations that are more favorable to community projects or forself-consumption. Aliente and the scientists who support the collective thusalign themselves with the European directives on clean energy, known as the"winter package". These guidelines advocate the development of an energy modelthat prioritizes energy efficiency and savings as well as self-consumption in adistributed model where maximum generation capacity is regulated.Last Saturday, October 16, at the call of the Aliente collective, more than15,000 people demonstrated in the streets of Madrid to reject the centralizedmodel of large-scale renewable energies on which the current energy transition isbased. The demonstrators protested against an unsustainable development model, which considers energy as a source of profit and not as a common good that shouldbenefit everyone while respecting all of biodiversity. Faced with what theyconsider to be a historical error, they called for a democratically decided modelof renewable energy distribution that values energy efficiency, self-consumptionand energy communities. In short, their goal is to take advantage of all thevirtues of renewable sources,"#Renewables yes but not so. Alliance energy and territory aliente.org". Theorganizations of the Aliente collective share the observation of the scientists:if the energy transition in favor of renewable and carbon-free solutions isnecessary, it must above all be social and be done with respect for humans andliving things.Regulate productionThe demonstration was a resounding success, especially since most of thedemonstrators who came to Madrid that day came from different rural areas. Thesmall individual mobilizations that locally defended their territories, theirnatural environment and their heritage finally gathered around a common cry, embodying the positioning of the alliance: "renewable energies, yes ! but notlike that ! »The significant support and scientific relay enjoyed by the measures called forby the Aliente collective is further proof that there is a solid consensus withinthe scientific community concerning the impact of large-scale renewable energieson biodiversity and the way in which they are currently being implemented. While in France the electoral period sees nuclear power put back on the front ofthe stage, the urgency for our class is to regain control of the "energytransition" and to organize the equitable reduction of energy expenditure. Onboth sides of the border, we cannot trust the capitalists whose interests willalways be antagonistic to the flourishing of the living human beings or not. However, we can no longer rely on state institutions and that is why we willencourage all our environmental allies to go beyond the citizenist framework toimpose our ecological and social demands through struggle.Ginés (UCL Nantes) and Mélissa (UCL Orléans)THE ILLUSION OF TRANSITIONCurrently, the organization of the production system is based almost solely onthe consumption of fossil fuels. We may have heard talk for years of a transitionto "clean" or "green" energies, but the reality is that nothing we do every dayescapes oil. Every day about 100 million barrels of oil are consumed while sincethe 1970s, scientists have been warning of the danger this represents for ourecosystems, our societies, our lives. If all our fossil fuel reserves wereburned, the global temperature would rise by at least 11 degrees !Opposite, the industrialists are doing everything to fuel doubt and above all notto change anything in this system which is profitable for them. In 2021,TotalEnergie made a net profit of $4.6 billion. Along with the other fossil fuelindustries, it invests heavily in climate change denial, which represents one ofthe ten largest lobbying budgets in the world. At the same time, in the face of growing concern but above all in the face of theeasy and profitable depletion of oil, the capitalists are investing in othersources of energy. But the energy transition remains illusory. Fossil fuels stillrepresent 83.2% of the global energy mix and no other energy can support ourcapitalist production model.Restrictions, shortages, until when are we going to accept seeing energyinequalities widen?Melissa (UCL Orleans)https://www.unioncommunistelibertaire.org/?Collectif-Aliente-Espagne-pour-des-eoliennes-a-echelle-humaine_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.caSPREAD THE INFORMATION
